Il Villino haputale

Host was exceptional and helped with our every need during the stay. The food at breakfast and dinner was very tasty and we had great conservation with our host. The view from the balcony is incredible - great to sit with a pot of tea and enjoy the scenery.

The facilities were fairly basic but are currently being upgraded. Difficult to get consistent hot water in the shower.

The host is professional in every way, he is very friendly and helpful - he really takes care about the guests, he advises, organises transfers and makes suggestions if needed... He is always available if needed and never insistent - he is a perfect host :) We were also very happy because of our accommodation, delicious breakfast and beautiful views from the balcony. I strongly recommend this place!

Away from the main roads but very close to restaurants and shops, just outside the small town center. Owner staff was very helpful. They arranged tuktuk for sightseeing.

This is a mountain home and some people may find it difficult as a lot of stairs to access the place.

Fabulous host Nalif who was so interesting to talk to. We enjoyed a wonderful evening chatting with him and learnt so much about Sri Lanka. The property itself is in a great location with a lovely view from each room down the valley and very convenient for the train station and buses. Nalif helped us with suggestions for two excellent days of hiking in this beautiful area, and with our onward bus journey to Yala. The room itself was fairly basic but had the essentials. No soap or tea/coffee as we’d come to expect for similarly priced rooms elsewhere. Dinner and breakfast were available for US$10 each respectively and were plentiful and tasty. Better value food options are available in the town, but it’s hard to beat the setting and friendly ambience of Il Villino.

Not suitable for anyone unable to manage several flights of steep steps.

The owner was very nice, helpful and informative, gave us good information on how to get to the Lipton' seat next morning. The room was spacious, beds were ok, nice balcony, but didn't see much because of the heavy fog.

The room was moist and had bit stuffy smell, there wasn't air conditioning or even a fan. In order to get hot water from shower you needed to put a switch on outside of the bathroom, but anyway was able to get nice warm water. Hand towels would be nice. Lots of stairs. You can hear the train passing by the city and the mosque prayers very early in the morning, but most of the night was quiet.

We had dinner and breakfast here and both were fantastic! The owner is so lovely , and informative - we learnt so much about Sri Lanka and its cultures listening to him over dinner. His hospitality was exceptional. The location is great - a quick tuk tuk ride from the station.

Comfy rooms, warm water, amazing terrace where you can get tasty meals (really recommend eating there!). And Naleef (the owner?) was one of the nicest, brightest hosts we have pleasure to meet - we had some really interesting conversations about the country and some great trip recommendations. Haputale was our hidden gem of this trip!

A bit too much of a wildlife trying to share the room with us, but nothing scary ;)

Fabulous location with great views down the valley. Host was extremely helpful with excellent English, helped us with local recommendations but also wider tips for our trip. Dinner and breakfast were great, cooked by the family, and helpful in addressing unusual dietary requirements. Enjoyed Haputale as less touristy than other places in the hills eg Ella, Kandy, Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and recommend!

The location was great and the breakfasts and dinner we had were among our best in sri lanka!

The twin bed was uncomfortable.
