Waikonini Homestead

Secluded setting. The house has interesting history. Furnished to the period. Well behaved friendly dogs. Interesting host.

Not all lounges made available for the guest use. Dinner good but not exceptional.

Breakfast was good. Nice that other guests sit at the same table. It facilitated getting to know them. The gardens around the property are beautiful! Mary we very helpful about where to go on our next stop - Christchurch. The Italian restaurant she recommended in Christchurch was excellent.

Would help if a more details were given about what to expect on the roads near the property. We weren't expecting gravel roads, so when we were asked to turn onto one that went quite a ways without any houses or signs, we felt that we might be lost, especially since it was night and very dark on these roads. I would recommend getting there before sunset.

Off the beaten track, not so isolated, but a perfect getaway in to the forest and nature

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Waikonini Homestead. I originally booked the Summer House, but as the weather turned rainy and quite cold, Mary very kindly upgraded my room free of charge. That thoughtful gesture truly meant a lot. Mary looked after us so well throughout our stay. Both breakfast and dinner were top-notch, beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The whole experience felt warm and personal, and the environment genuinely felt like home. The homestead itself is a stunning heritage house, exceptionally well maintained, I honestly couldn’t spot a single speck of dust. Everything was immaculate and cared for with pride. And of course, I can’t forget Annie and Pipi (I hope I got the names right!),the two adorable corgis. They were such a sweet highlight of the stay. Highly recommended. I would definitely love to come back again!

Looks pretty on the picture - sadly got sucked into the false advertising of booking a budget room - which is not in the homestead like it shows on the picture.

I did not stay - This is the message I received as a warning basically… You have booked a budget room It’s a summer house (looks like a kids old play house) no insulation. There is no electricity or running water, so no toilet or shower. And it’s 2 mins walk from the main homestead. The picture on the “room” displays a homestead. I believe this is false advertising. The lady will not pick up the phone and is terrible at communication if you are not happy with what you have booked. She offered a refund or an upgrade at $230.00. I tried to get a refund she then declined it. by

It was a wonderful stay—the homestead was exactly what I was looking for. The farm animals, dogs, cats, and garden added an extra-special touch for me. Mary was just lovely, so open and welcoming, and the other guests were lovely and interesting to chat with too. I loved my room and felt right at home and nicely rested. I would absolutely recommend this stay to anyone who appreciates old homes and lovely Kiwi hospitality.

Peaceful location, sociable hosts, comfortable living environment, historical features of the property.

Bed lacked a headboard, lack of space for comfortable seating in our room. No actual curtains in our room, just net curtains.
