Monserrat

Although we only spent a day here, the location was perfect. When driving to the location, it’s the first street immediately to the left once you exit the tunnel. Monserrat is the first building you encounter on the right, once you’ve turned onto the street. Parking is limited, and the roads are narrow and steep, so you may want to use the public car park, which is located immediately to the right after you exit the tunnel. The views from here are fantastic and it has other amenities (i.e., restaurant, etc.) if visited at the right time of season. Michele was helpful in getting us situated; I would recommend communicating via text or WhatsApp vice booking.com. Once checked in, we explored the village, stopped at Mad Bar, where the staff were quite helpful and friendly, and had a fantastic dinner at the Dolomito, with Christie as our waitress. Depending upon season, there may be limited restaurants to visit, with many closings early and reopening around 7pm. Also, specific to us, we ended up with a nail in one of our tires - thankfully, it was a slow leak, and it allowed us to travel over to Potenza to repair; if driving, may be beneficial to plan for this freak incident, ensuring you understand what, if any, spare tire, etc., is available. Castelmezzano is a small town and village, with minimal means to resolve an issue as mentioned.

One observation made was to be mindful of how long a shower is taken, as it appeared to drain slowly (in our room), and could potentially spill over, if not careful.

Perfect! Amazing view from balcony, very clean and beautiful room. Parking easy. Location super! First house when you drive from tunnel and take first left towards city.

The position of the house and the magnificent views.

When we arrived, there was no one at home. The house looked closed up. After about 30minutes we went in search of other accommodation. We arrived at a farm and told our story. The owner phoned the owner of Monserrat who eventually came to fetch us from the farm. Not a good start to the stay.

The location is perfect if want to visit this beautiful region and if you are travelling with motorcycles like we where the location will offer the parking and security. BF was excellent but unfortunately for us the restaurant was not open at the time we where there. one more reason to make an other stay :). Mr Monserat is great host and he will go out of his way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

View from the balcony was nice. Parking in front of the property was very convenient.

No remote for the air conditioner and it didn't turn on automatically. It was 36 degrees Celsius during our stay so very hot and uncomfortable. Wooden screen doors to the balcony were falling apart and difficult to close, the screen was unattached in spots so mosquitoes,etc could easily enter. Sporadic unreliable wifi ... Weird bathroom light cast yellow stripes on your skin, etc. Toilet seat moved sideways when sat on. Fridge didn't keep drinks cold -tap water was colder. Overall, the room is in need of repairs. Host was unresponsive to messages sent via Booking.com. Called twice and woman hung up on me twice! 🥺

I loved everything about this little hotel! It was a quick stop for me on my way to Matera but this village is gorgeous and apartment was very easy with parking and walking into town. Although the restaurant wasn’t open, the owners were kind enough to offer to make me coffee or get me a drink when I checked in. No complaints from me.

This place clearly had prior owners but has since been left to an older couple who, while sweet and well-meaning, are no longer running a proper accommodation. It is clean (there are clearly cleaners still coming in) but otherwise it is a total mystery why this place still has a decent rating?

Take your pick. Boarded windows, no-one answering the phone to check us in (we got lucky that the lady came out to feed the feral cats!), a dining room from the Shining, 20 mins check-in while the guy figured out how to use his desktop, a BASIC (but clean) room….

Location was very good

Communication was not very responsive. i asked about wifi by text after checkin but no response at all. The room looks very old and the water was tepid not hot, so i did not get my hot shower from trickling flow of water.

Very rustic but comfortable.
