It was a small, quiet Inn with a common room used for breakfast or sitting, an honor bar with an outstanding selection of Madeira wine from the proprietor’s vineyard, an inside pool, and several areas to sit or lounge outside

"Little gem west of Funchal with an enchanting view over coast and mountains."

The view! The garden! Greatest place ever for breakfast. The location. Charm of the old house. Very friendly owner.

Difficult parking on a slope (but that is Madeira).

"A slice of paradise in Madeira"

Vila Afonso is a hidden gem - it was our little slice of paradise! The view and property itself are just out of this world, the property grounds are so beautifully maintained that it's wonderful to just lounge about in the garden all day. The owner was most helpful and kind, making sure that everything was in order, and he even provided us with lactose free milk for breakfast upon request!

I am still yet to get used to how firm Portuguese beds are, but it's not really a fault of the property at all! The one small suggestion I have is to add a bit more variety to the breakfast, but that's just because we were there for 5 days and it got a little repetitive :)

"Great central place to stay and relax in Madeira"

Great location to travel around the island with convenient parking on the property. Bungalow was great to stay and kitchen had all the essentials. The roof covered swimming pool was very convenient and great to relax at the end of the day. There are a few very nice restaurants 5-10 mins walk! Very nice and discreet hosts.

Interior decoration could have been done with a bit more taste to make the room feel nicer and I would have like a bit more diversity on the breakfast buffet.

"Pefect!"

My wife and I loved the villa! It was clean and comfy. The host was super helpful and gave us good hiking tips. Would definitely stay again.

It wasn't so easy to find the villa because the entrance sign was hidden by overgrown bushes.
