Albert Guest - Galle Fort

I would give Albert Guest zero stars but the questionnaire does not allow. On arrival in Fort Galle our taxis driver (arranged for us by Albert Guest) was met by a tuk tuk driver who guided him to ‘our guest house’. Although owner said yes this was Albert Guest it clearly was not the place advertised on Booking.com but a very grubby cafe, with one or two rooms above. I don’t know why I allowed them to show me the room they had for us; it was an awful prison cell of a room, with one double bed when we had booked a twin room. When I complained that this was definitively not what I had booked and said that we would not be staying I was told Albert Guest was being renovated and they had arranged this as our alternative accommodation. The cafe owner then called Albert Guest - I think. I should have insisted on speaking to them myself, but didn’t. He said he would take us to another guest house. This second alternative was much better but still not as well equipped nor as attractive as Albert Guest appeared on Booking.com. We were told the price was the same and so accepted this accommodation as we were tired and needed, after a long night and day travelling some rest and food. At the end of our stay the owners of this guest house wanted one third more than the agreed price for Albert Guest - which we negotiated down, but still paid a little more. I had booked Albert Guest one month in advance along with the taxi and when we arrived at Colombo airport I even received a message from Albert Guest to say the taxi driver was waiting, but never did Albert Guest inform me that they could not provide the accommodation; no communication, no apology.

EXCEPTIONAL Value for the location. 1 min walk from the sunset point. Friendly host and good breakfast. The son speaks good English. They kindly accommodate our request to park our rented Tuktuk for one night. AC in the room worked well.

The sheets and linens were cleaned but tattered, with holes and stains. They replaced them on request. Some upkeep paint in the washroom is needed.

Great location inside Galle Fort. Great host and a very good breakfast provided.

The accommodation was like a guest house. The folks who own the building live on the ground floor and they are a lovely family. They were super nice to us and asked us what we wanted for breakfast every morning. They prepared home-cooked meals for us that were very tasty. The room was also clean, and the BNB is inside Galle Fort so everything was at a walkable distance.

The AC wasn't fully effective and could be better because it was extremely hot in Galle. The bathroom was sanitary but it could use some deep cleaning for sure.

Excellent location, very comfortable and clean. The family who run the guest house are really warm and welcoming. Really good value for the area.

A bit rough place with some unfinished things in the room. A lot of noise from neighbour, you could easily hear each other. Good location, price to high compared to what you get.

One of the best places I’ve stayed in Sri Lanka. Comfortable room with both ceiling fan and aircon plus very good quality sheets. Large and tasty breakfast. I would have liked to stay longer but they were booked solid. Very good Wi-Fi. Hospitable friendly family run the hotel

Great location in Galle Fort. Lovely breakfast included. We were very well looked after by the family who run the home stay. They even let us organise a late check out due to a late night airport departure.

Great location in the middle of the historic Dutch Fort, a few steps to most sights. Atmospheric small terrace in front of the room with a view to the street. The room was quite small but comfortable enough and impeccably clean. Efficient AC.
