Durham City Retreat

The location was convenient and the house was lovely. I stayed on my own in a twin room which was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was amazing too.I only stayed for a very short time and left really early. Otherwise, I would definitely have tried the breakfast.

The location and general state of the rooms

The bedsheet in the King Studio was dirty and did not appear to have been changed from previous use. The bedding was creased and littered with hair from previous use. The upstairs twin room had no lock ; so no privacy or security.

Accommodation was a lovely spacious converted garage to the side of the house, with access via a door off the main family home's hallway. Included a large and well-equipped private ensuite bathroom, and had a small kitchen unit at the back of the bedroom with a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge, plus plates/bowels/glasses/mugs and cutlery - everything you could ask for. The owner offered use of the main family kitchen, seating area and garden if I wanted, but I didn't need to use them. The room had a decent smart TV and desk space, and the wifi was (lightening) fast which was a great bonus. The house is in a nice residential area about 10 mins drive from Durham centre. Would definitely recommend.

A handy stop over for us, breaking up a long journey. Very comfortable with a nice ensuite.

Very friendly and welcoming. This is a family home. Help yourself to anything and everything (just about).
