The Charlton Arms

I had a lovely stay at the Charlton Arms recently. Lovely room, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was great and I was sat overlooking the fabulous view of the river. Some friends joined me for supper which was also excellent.

Nothing negative to say about this property.

Everything,spotlessly clean, amazing food great location. Highly recommend.

There was a friendly welcome and we were able to park and charge our ev car. The room was comfortable and well decorated. We ate dinner and breakfast there and both were superb. Good range of choices on the menu. Competitively priced. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was a great stay and we would return

Room was on the second floor; problem for arthritic knees but we managed. Bathroom was very very warm with sloping ceiling

Evening meal was top notch, room had been recently decorated, housekeeping staff were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast manager went out and brought some soya milk for my wife (she doesn’t like oat milk) and the staff in general were very good. Location close to the river and town but see below for the downside.

Sadly, we were in the Arial room. That is roadside, right by the traffic lights controlling the traffic onto the oneway bridge. Which meant we got to hear the music from the vehicles as they waited for the 3 way lights to change. We tried closing the window and that helped a bit, but the room was then too hot, so we switched on the A/C. Bad move, it was way too noisy. So, we gave up with that and eventually fell asleep. Only to be woken around 4:00, by the person in the room above snoring. This happen on both nights. Obviously the hotel can not be held responsible for the noise other guest make but it gives you an idea of the soundproofing.

Beautiful Location - Great first impressions ... Cosy Bar with comfy sofas and chairs... Dog friendly too ! Easy Check in - wonderful room , with a gorgeous view of the river. Dinner was SO incredibly tasty, with loads of choice - as was breakfast the next day. Had the best nights sleep on the clean sumptuous bed too ! Aparently i was so contented I was laughing in my sleep .

Actually not much !! The staff were brilliant - so no probs there ; I guess it would have been nice to open a window in the bedroom ...but thats really it !

The food was exceptional during our lovely dinner overlooking the river. Sadly didn't have enough room for desert. Breakfast also top notch! Staff smiley and friendly. We'll be back !!!! Thank you.

Not keen on dark bar area but staff lovely and accommodated me for an online zoom before I had checked in
