Celebrity Inn

This place wasn’t bad..when I first got there I thought I was pulling into a rundown building. Very off putting..I checked in and honestly the rooms aren’t bad. Definitely could use some upgrades. The bedding had some stains but was clean just threw off what I wasn’t gonna use. Honestly it did what it needed to do I’ll be back in December and will use again

The price.

The price that we liked was no longer something we liked when we found out the air conditioner didn't work. My husband told the person in the office and they smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up. It was a hot July stay. I'm not happy they did not even bother to offer any compensation for such an important amenity on a hot July day that didn't work and that the person my husband talked to didn't really respond to the complaint. We will not be staying there again.

This motel is very unique and friendly! I have been there on business a few times and the staff is absolutely great! Roger and Peggy have done a wonderful job of accommodating people. Several rooms have animal themes and are really something to see. I stayed in the “Bear” room this time, and the decorations are amazing. The smell of cedar was remarkable as well. Very clean with a great housekeeping staff.

I stayed at the Celebrity Inn over the night of Sunday, 6 August 2017. Anxious to plan my weeklong trip around Iowa early, I reserved by phone on May 22. Peggy (wife of the husband-wife co-owners) said, "I'll put you in the book for August." I asked, "Don't you want my credit card?" She cheerfully said, "Oh, we'll handle that when you get here." Note that a GPS might lead you slightly astray, so use your eyes once you reach the area. The motel is at the southwestern corner of State Highway 2 and 16th St. (Glenn Miller Ave.), under the big "MOTEL" sign. It's across the road from a Pizza Hut and Subway, two buildings away from the excellent Ice House Restaurant, and has a supermarket caticorner across the highway intersection. The motel has a huge parking lot that can accommodate big rigs and any number of cars. A covered picnic area is on the grounds. The lobby exterior and interior are decorated with old-style antiques. Free local newspapers are in the office. The motel is pet-friendly. I checked in at around 6p, pretty tired from having awakened in Texas at o'dark-thirty, flying into Des Moines, and driving to Clarinda. Roger (the husband co-owner) checked me in and congenially said, "You can pay when you check out." All rooms have an interior entrance. I entered through a red door just off the lobby and passed two vending machines and an ice machine. The room door opened with a real key. I had asked for a quiet room, and I got one. The bathroom had a modern sink with chrome faucets that was outside the shower/toilet area. The linens were fluffy and soft, superior to those at any Super 8. The double sets of linens, 2 bars of antibacterial soap, and 4 single shampoo/conditioner packets would enable 2 showers for 2 guests -- upon arrival and before checkout. The shower-rod was straight, but the shower curtain didn't get sucked in. The water pressure was outstanding, aided by a special showerhead. A 1400-watt hairdryer (not a wimpy 1250-watt device) was provided. There was a coffeemaker with 2 coffee packets + amenities, styrofoam cups, and plastic cups. The spacious main room had EXCELLENT lighting; the carpet was not necessarily new but was very clean. The walls had standard motel-type wall art. Fixtures included a telephone, flat-screen TV, 2 sturdy lamps, 2 mirrors, a microwave, a large mini-refrigerator, a recliner chair, a large WORKING clock-radio, and solid-wood furniture (dresser, coat alcove, 2 tables, and nightstand). The king mattress, softer than it was firm, had zero sagging. The pillows were standard but not flattened out. The air-conditioning unit was fully controllable by the user and had a fan that stayed ON to provide white noise (often necessary in motel rooms to mask exterior sounds). I appreciated the full-sized wastebasket in the main room. Unlike many if not most motels, there were ample electrical outlets in the bedroom & bathroom. I slept like a log and looked forward to my active Monday on the road. Checkout for $59 was a bargain (about half of what the Super 8 in town quoted) and a speedy breeze. Roger & Peggy, the co-owners, are two of the nicest people that you could ever hope to meet and do business with. They answered my questions about where to eat, etc. I liked them so much that I was sorry to have to leave Clarinda to continue my weeklong 1,224-mile trip around Iowa. My standard for rating motels is "Could I stay here happily for an entire week?" The answer in this case is a resounding yes. If you want or need to stop for one or more nights in southwestern Iowa, the Celebrity Inn should greatly please you.

We stayed for three nights while attending the Glenn Miller Festival. The room was clean, with a microwave and fridge. The AC worked great, with temperatures all three days of 90+ degrees. Great value for the price and will stay again if in the area.

best bed you will ever sleep in at any motel. customer service was exceptional price was wonderful. I will drive from I29 or I35 to stay here again. I now have a friend in Clarinda. My wife and I made a trip to pick up a trailer. We made it a pleasure trip. The staff at the motel made it great. Restaurant next door, Ice house is as good a the Motel.

We were visiting friends in Clarinda. Our son played baseball in Clarinda for 2 summers so we were familiar with this motel. The motel is aged but very well kept. The room was very clean and the owners continually work to improve the property. The owner is very nice. Would recommend if staying in Clarinda.
