Autrain Motel

The building was from the 1950s or 1960s. The 12 inch TV was wZy too small. The water smelled like sulfur. They did provide us with a gallon of fresh water for teeth brushing and face washing but the SMELL WAS HORRIBLE. Carpet was worn and torn. Two of the windows did not open. Other potential guests came and went. We would have too but didn’t know how to get a refund from Expedia. Nice lady and young man but the place should be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. They probably can’t afford it but they could do much better as a business with a new morde en facility. Close to Lake Superior was a plus.

It is hard to find affordable lodging in this area. The host was nice but the accommodations are older and in need of repair. We felt safe and things were clean, but the room smelled musty, the hot water smelled like sulfur, and it is tiny.

The room was okay, but the water was brown and smelled like rotten eggs. The beds were hard. The bathroom was small, tight squeeze to get to toilet between the shower wall and sink. Didn't want to shower or brush teeth with that water. It needs to be updated

The price was good for a room a block from Lake Superior. This is a place to sleep as there are no amenities but our reason for coming was to spend time by the lake. The one detractor was that the water was a little discolored with a bit of an odor when showering, but this is not a deal breaker. To end on a positive note, there is hand packed ice cream in the gas station/grocery where you check in.
