Canfield Hotel

Clean, comfortable and close to downtown Dubuque so we were very happy with our stay.

Room needs heat or more blankets

Unique is definitely the word here, the place had unique pictures for their hotel. The place is super old and they tried to make it look updated with some things like new ceiling fan and fresh paint and new acoustical ceiling tiles but didn’t update the light covers for the ceiling lights and hung new grid and ceiling tiles a few inches below the old tile. You could see a lot of newer things that they half way fixed. They had old stained sheets on the beds and the head board looked like they got it from a flea market, very old and repainted. It almost looked like they painted over dirt.

It was a hotel built I believe in 1900s

Old school. Throwback to the days of Al Capone updated for Benny Goodman. Tiny bathroom but functional. Clean room, sparse, but adequate for a restful sleep.

There is a constant, rhythmic noise that sounds like it comes from an upper floor. Not hammering, but more squeaking that has not stopped. Noisy, stale cigarette smell. It's worse than awful. Plus I got bit on the hand by something in the night - bugs!

Very pleased with the overall property impression

We found the Canfield Hotel clean and comfortable, and above all the professional yet friendly people working there.

We went here partially for the old-school feel, and it did not disappoint! Everything was fine, and about as expected for the price. Would stay here again.
