WoodSpring Suites East Lansing - University Area

This hotel is located right next to a major highway, so traffic noise is always noticable. The idea of a mostly kiosk managed hotel doesn't work well. At night and in the evening, when the front desk is closed, the overall feel of the surroundings, both inside and outside the hotel, project a feel of being less safe. Being an extended stay hotel, the clientele is definitely a different feel from a traditional stay hotel. The walls are thin so you clearly hear conversation around you while in your room. Despite the rooms being non smoking, very strong smells of cannabis emanate throughout the hotel, especially in the evenings. I would think the old addage, "When the cats away, the mice will play," is most fitting for this hotel. When the front desk closes at 5pm daily, all rules and regulations can easily be ignored and broken. I will say the front desk and housekeeping staff were both excellent overall. Both provided excellent customer service and both ladies were most helpful and sincere in their interactions. I'm sure this hotel is great for extended stay guests, who prefer a greater degree of freedom. For the standard hotel guest, who stays a night or two, I would suggest looking at the numerous other hotels available in the same localized area of this hotel.

It was alright. I tend to stay at WoodSpring often due to my 1hr 30min commute to work making it only 20 minutes. I do have issues with the room keys not working (there never next to my phone) my stay 3 weeks ago my room had a lot of fruite flies and my room last week on the 2nd level was not the greatest. The motion sensor light was broke so the bathroom light would always come on and when i would shower it would shut off.

When I checked in and it was early 10:00 a.m. guy said they had a room available I said okay thank you checked me in the room 207. Disgusting the room was not even clean look like the people were still there in the bathroom bad all in turmoil and filthy. I left my stuff in the bathroom where I was told to leave it and then we cleaned the room because I was headed to a golf tournament that morning.

If you arrive after 5pm, like the vast majority of guests do, you will never see an employee of this hotel. The check-in is via "live kiosk". It took over 10 minutes to get someone on the kiosk, and once connected it repeatedly disconnected. It's a terrible "service" meant to save a buck by not employing a human and made the whole experience stressful.

The staff were very accommodating and helpful when we had a small issue with the lock on the door. Not only did they come right away to fix the issue, they were very professional and very nice. Overall liked the room, very roomy, comfortable and clean. Pet friendly property which also was great to have since we are traveling with our two pups.

Had an issue with the room and tried multiple times to discuss with front desk. They kept forwarding my issue to the hotel general manager who never called back or contacted me. Called 4 separate times and even emailed him/her - Lupe Colon. The staff is non existent, ie video checkin. The hotel smells like weed. And there are strange things happening there at night. Hotel area is also way in the back of an industrial area so not the safest location. Strongly suggest you look past the very cheap price and select another hotel for either short or long term stay. Oh, and somehow Lupe did reply to my review on another hotel website. Assume that’s an automated reply, ie “thanks for your reviews. We’ll be sure to improve in the future….”
