"A Terrible Experience at The Swan Hotel"

2.0

I booked a reservation on what I thought was the Swan Hotel website. I didn’t realize that a third party had conned me into thinking I was booking directly with the hotel. I’ve also written a negative review for bookonline.com. Because I was redirected, I paid nearly twice the hotel cost ($942 for two nights) without realizing there was a much more cost-effective way to go. Booking directly with The Swan Hotel would only cost $240 per night. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. When I arrived at The Swan, I noticed that the head of the bed was four or more inches lower than the foot of the bed. It wouldn’t work for sleeping at such an angle. The bedspread was worn and badly patched in several areas, making it look ragged. The coffee table was badly scratched and worn. The whole cottage had the feel of a very cheap motel room. I went to sit in the Adirondack chair to wait for my husband in front of the cottage behind the low picket fence of the property. I noticed a strong fishy smell and wondered if it was coming from the nearby marina or an on-shore breeze. My husband arrived and noticed the mesh fencing around the base of the cottage and a wire looped along the picket fence. He saw piles of sea otter poop everywhere. Thankfully, I hadn’t stepped in any of it. I quickly got out of there and was frustrated that the clerk hadn’t warned me not to go into the garden. My husband went into the office to ask about the otters and the front desk clerk admitted that they were having a challenge keeping the otters from crawling under the cottages. Hence, the smell. She brought us an air purifier and told us to just keep the front window closed. My husband determined to fix the bed by getting two bricks out of the gardens and placing them under the low end of the bed frame. It would work for a night or two but was certainly not a permanent solution. Later, the same front desk clerk carried in bed risers that were too tall to use on just one end of the bed. She apologized profusely for our inconvenience and promised that the front desk clerk on duty the following day would refund some of our money to compensate for the issues we’d faced. The next day, I went to the office to find a very unfriendly clerk who wasn’t interested in doing anything to help us. She denied the otter problem and said she’d never smelled it and told me I was the first person to ever complain about it. She then said the bed frame was new and that I should have asked their maintenance people to fix it. She asked if I’d slept in it the night before. I said yes, I had. She then summarily dismissed any complaint I had about the bed being a problem. She said that it was “unfortunate” that I’d gone through a third-party vendor because there was “nothing” she could do. I would have to take my complaints up with bookonline.com, who had sold my reservation to Expedia.com. She offered to provide a $50 gift certificate for my “next stay.” I will never stay at this hotel again. I packed my bags then and drove back home to Seattle, my short vacation was over.

"Great location - kind staff "

10.0

We were in town for one night. Conveniently located at the end of the Main Street. Walkable to everything. Nice, artsy town with nice shops & galleries. We stayed in one of the “cabins”. Cozy. Everything you need. They gave us early check-in. We’d been camping for days and wanted to shower. Staff was kind and accommodating .

Cabin was nicely stocked with dishes and service ware.

WiFi kept dropping in the cabin, had to walk toward the office to successfully log in.

"Perfect place to stay in Pt. Townsend"

10.0

We stayed in one of the lovely cottages. A perfect location in Pt Townsend. The accommodations were wonderful and the employees were all friendly and helpful. Across the street from the hotel is a nice place for coffee and pastry while taking in the view of port, the distant mountains, and the ships.

"Travels with family and dog (aka family)"

10.0

Amazing stay! I have been wanting to stay here for sometime but they are always booked. It did not disappoint. Super clean, bedding was great, friendly atmosphere. They actual care about the waste we as consumers produce and take actions to reduce it. They are pet friendly. They don’t fleece you for traveling with your dog. They provide you with dog towels, treats, bowls and a tray to feed the pooch on. That’s value! Can’t wait to go back.
