Host & Stay - Boutique Balcony

Great apartment very spacious, lovely comfybeds, had everything we needed. Clean and tidy. very tastefully disigned living area. There was scaffolding on the building itself as the were doing essential repairs to the roof but that didnt impinge on our stay atall. Very impressed with this apartment and will most deffinatly stay again. Lovely kitchen hamper on arrival.

While all the shops and marina are only a short walk down in to the centre the unavoidable walk back could be quite tricky if you had mobility issues as it is very steep to get up to west cliff itself. Worked wonders on my calf muscles though.

Great location with brilliant view of sea and abbey in the distance. Unfortunately unable to use the balcony due to some scaffolding but we understand some work is being done to maintain this marvelous historic building. The apartment is very nice and has everything you need for self catering although we ate out for our whole stay. Parking outside with a permit provided, easy walking distance to all bars and restaurants

Really comfortable, lots of space and everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Lovely basket of nibbles when we arrived and plenty of tea and coffee!

1. Advertised as “Boutique Balcony”. However the balcony was surrounded by heavy scaffolding, alongside being plastered with bird poo and left over stuff from the previous occupiers. Please see the enclosed pictures. This was NOT mentioned in the advertisement. Not being difficult here, but would appropriate to inform people of this, especially when it’s advertised as ‘Boutique Balcony’

There was no accommodation available! So this booking did not go ahead!!

We were informed that the accommodation was not available 30 minutes before our check in time! My wife, daughter and 2 young grand children were left without accommodation! Stranded in Whitby!! They had to return home! Time off work, personal arrangements had been made to stay here! + the disappointment at telling our grandkids that the weekend away was not going to happen!!! To date still no refund!

**Review of Boutique Balcony, Metropole, Whitby Apartment** Unfortunately, this apartment did not meet my expectations. On the first night, the fire alarms went off throughout the building, forcing all guests to meet outside. At least I suppose it’s a good sign that they work. By the third night, the fuse box had an issue, causing all plugs and the internet to go out. I had to call maintenance, and then on the last night, we experienced a leak in the kitchen from the roof fire alarm fitting. I had to call maintenance again, and it was still leaking when I left! **Accommodation** The double bed was very small, leaving little room for two people and significantly impacting our sleep quality. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by an entrance that resembled a construction site. This unwelcoming atmosphere was further compounded by the smell of cannabis, which hit me every time I entered. It was quite off-putting and made for a less-than-pleasant experience. Going to the bins in the building was a health hazard and absolutely disgusting. 🤢 Inside the apartment, I was disappointed to find that the blinds in both bedrooms and the windows were dirty. There were cobwebs in every corner, indicating it hadn’t been cleaned for my arrival. The overall cleanliness was the worst I have seen, with dusty windowsills and floors that showed signs of spills. The balcony, which I had looked forward to using, was completely unusable due to bird droppings and extensive scaffolding that was not mentioned during the booking process. The term "boutique balcony" is a complete misnomer for this apartment. While the kitchen was well-equipped, I was frustrated to find that there were no cleaning supplies available, forcing me to purchase them myself. Additionally, we had a leak in the kitchen roof, and nobody came to address the issue. To add to the inconvenience. Reflecting on my experience, I regret not reading the reviews before booking this apartment.

The location was perfect for us

Floors and rug were dirty and the vacuum cleaner didn’t work properly When we booked there was nothing said about the work being done or that we couldn’t use the balcony which had not been cleaned in a very long time full of pigeon mess and rubbish. The cleaner also left their used vape for us on the dirty table 😐

The location was great. A quick walk to the sea front and an easy walk down into the main bay at Whitby. The lining was fresh with plenty of towels. Full kitchen of utensils and pans/pots.

As much as the property was nicely decorated. It was a little tatty. The hardwood floors were dirty, could have done with a hoover and mop under the seats and around the table as you could see a covering of dust. And also the main rug had thick black hair that had not been hoovered. The screws in the toilet door handle were coming out. Surfaces were dusty and could have done with a polish. The pillows in the bedrooms could do with replacing as they were very thin. Lack of instructions for the induction hob made hard work cooking - not everyone has induction hobs and I needed to google how to use them. We also had issues sorting the parking ticket out and had to pay for a day (which isn’t a problem) but when you book somewhere because of the accessible parking you expect it to be sorted before you arrive. The balcony was off limits due to ongoing building works which was not advertised at the time of booking - I understand we couldn’t use it, and the note on the door explaining why, but it was filthy. Could have been swept at least, but nothing. For a place where you can’t enter until 4pm, it was annoying that the property was still dusty and unkept. It fell short on some aspects of our stay which is such a shame.
