Grey Pine Lodge

This was a treasure of a find. Clean, quiet and perfectly located. The property is unique in that it's self directed and offers fire pits, self check in and a nicely appointed tuck shop complete with free coffee and filtered water. Unloading your vehicle is easy and right outside your door. Firewood is dry and accessible. Rooms were perfectly spartan but modern with a great shower and pressure. For those independent travellers who value ease and cleanliness away from the big chains and a unique experience this is it.

Stayed here while skiing at Wintergreen, an easy 30 minutes away. The rooms were comfortable, and we really enjoyed having an outdoor fire and smores in a lovely wooded ambiance after our ski days. I can imagine this would be a perfect place in summer/fall too if you’re traveling to the mountains. Will absolutely stay again.

There were many things detracting from our one night stay. First of all was the overwhelming odor that almost knocked us over when we walked in...I can't describe it, but it permeated everything to the point I had to wash my clothes twice when I got home to get rid of the smell. Even my skin retained the odor. We got there at 8:30 at night and there was no staff (or other guests by the way) that we could try to change our room. The heating system is terrible. It was 61 degrees when we got there. There is only a split in the ceiling and no heat at all in the bathroom. The split kept going on and off all night to maintain a 70 degree temp and the motor was so loud it was hard to sleep through.

Great remodeled in near hiking, breweries and wineries in the area. A short drive from Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Will definitely stay again.

The room was large, and very clean, the bed was cozy. I neede some assistance, and the gentleman that helped me was friendly and helpful. I love the fact that its not a chain hotel, and that they totally remodeled an existing hotel. I also love the fact that I knew the room I was in, and the code to the door before I arrived. Very comfortable.

Absolutely loved this quaint little spot! Very cozy and the pine shop was awesome. The only bump in the road was having no hot running water in our room to take showers before departing. The sink was lukewarm but that was as hot as it got. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay.
