"Lovely hotel, would definitely recommend if you want a chilled and relaxed break away.."

8.0

Review Myself, my sister and other family stayed here for a weekend break for my sisters birthday recently. It was part of an easyjet package holiday. Was really quite nervous because we had found the hotel via trip advisor which had a 4/5 rating but then went onto easyjet and it had 3/5 but we realised that perhaps the hotel had been updated and think the trip advisor reviews were since that update....so was a bit of a gamble. But happy to say it was a lovely stay and we had a wonderful break away. So much so that while we were there my sister booked a return stay for her and her partner for August!! I would also like to come back. Arrival We arrived at the hotel around 3 I think, we were slightly delayed by the easyjet transfer. Warm welcome by reception and provided some drinks. Easy to check in, paid the tourist tax thing and then went up to the rooms. Staff Everyone that we interacted with was lovely and helpful, we had no concerns and couldn't have been luckier with the staff we dealt with. They all work incredibly hard. Rooms Rooms were both lovely we had booked two superior rooms with a harbour view. And the view was lovely you could see the harbour and the sea beyond. Wonderful to wake up to when the sun is rising over the harbour and enjoy a nice cup of coffee!! We had contacted the hotel to let them know about my sisters birthday and they decorated the room and left her a lovely birthday message. It was really sweet and such a nice touch. Special thanks for the hotel for that. The rooms were very clean and, included in our room, we had use of the minibar which had some soft drinks in. However once we drank that, that was it, drinks wouldn't be replaced but that didn't bother us at all. We also had tea and coffee making facilities (nice clean kettle!). There is a safe and large wardrobe. Nice comfortable beds and a pillow menu (we didn't use that but FYI to anyone who does). Very quiet and no noise issues. We had a brilliant nights sleep. The AC was decent in our room although I did wake up in the night and put on a cardigan as I was cold (there was a duvet in the wardrobe but i didnt see it until the last night!). But my sister felt it was okay and she was fine so it's just personal preference. So if you are a cold person going with someone who runs hot take a jumper or use the duvet in the wardrobe. The AC in the other room we had wasn't as cold or powerful so that is something to consider. It didn't bother those who were in there but is something the hotel may want to look at for future guests who may want it colder. There is a TV in the room but limited channels and the WiFi didn't seem to connect to the smart TV. Again didn't bother us as we didn't watch TV and if we wanted something on in the background while getting ready we used our phones. But just an FYI for people who do like to watch TV. Balcony was clean and tidy and as stated there was a lovely view. We were on the fifth floor so high enough to get the full benefit of harbour view. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Lovely modern shower. Make sure you put down the floor mat though because it's one of those showers that's not over a bath and you walk in so there was some water that would escape because the screen was a touch too short I think. But everything worked and we had a lovely shower. There is a hairdryer in there which works fine. I think of you have long thick hair you might be there for a while so would recommend bringing your own if that's the case. Fine for short hair like mine! There was also shower gel and shampoo in the shower cubicle to use which is good if you only have hand luggage allowance. Not sure whether this is in all rooms so I would double check. What was slightly frustrating was the drains smell that tended to waft up from the bathroom. The others didn't have that issue in there room so perhaps it's just luck. It didn't bother us enough to want to move room at all but it was noticeable. Cleaners will come in and clean but we put do not disturb as we were only there for a few nights. WiFi was free and decent for video calling and doing all the normal bits you want to do. Pool On arrival we were informed that the main pool wasn't working properly which was disappointing. However they had another small pool (not deep I would say like paddling pool deep) which was lovely and cool. This was situated on the roof of the snack bar. It is usually an extra charge to go and sit up there and use the pool but they waived that charge as the other pool wasn't working properly. You could still use the main pool but it was like swimming in a hot bath which wasn't great as it was more than 30 degrees when we went. The main pool is a decent size and is shallow one end and quite deep at the other. The only issue that was found with the pool apart from the obvious heat issue which we had been told about was the fact that there were quite a few bugs in it and just a little bit grubby - by no means filthy or unbearable, it didn't bother me but it was noticed by other people in the party but it is nitpicky things rather than major deal breakers for returning. There are sunbeds with umbrellas around the pool and then bali beds on the upper level. All really nice. Wonderfully we didn't experience any people getting up before sunrise to reserve the sunbeds thank goodness. There was some bird poop on the umbrellas and we did notice that there were birds nesting on the outside part of the hotel and bird poop had trickled down the side of the hotel itself which looked a little unsightly. If they put some netting there that would sort that out and probably the bird poop issue as they may not then fly over and around the pool so much. But again that's just us being picky. It wasn't awful and it bothered some people in the party more than others who didn't think anything of it so personal preference I guess. Please don't let that put you off because it's a really minor issue but good for the hotel to know so they can sort it. Its those teeny tiny things that would really elevate an already brilliant hotel. Snack bar around pool The snack bar offers a decent size menu with a variety of bits to eat. We had the club sandwiches which came with a mountain of wedges which was absolutely delicious. We also ordered a pizza another day which was equally lovely. Prices are reasonable. The cocktails and sangria are banging. Breakfast Breakfast was lovely they had a large array of breakfast pastries and cake, fruits, cold meats and cheese as well as a hot counter which did have some stuff for vegans. However the vegan options were cauliflower one day and what looked like fried aubergine another. Strange choice for breakfast BUT the fact that they are making an effort for different dietary requirements was much appreciated. They also had almond milk and lactose free milk. There was a counter where you could get fried eggs, pancakes and omelette cooked fresh. Coffee, fruit juices and tea, yoghurts and cereal were also on offer. Dinner We can't comment on dinner options as we had bed and breakfast and chose to eat out. However I believe you can get half board which includes dinner, we could also still eat in there for 25 euros which was buffet style (drinks not included I don't think). Drinks range in prices cocktails are 11.95 euros, spirits ranging from 9.95 to 11.95 which includes the mixer (from memory), soft drinks 2-5 euros, beer 5-7 euros. I think, based on the snack bar food and breakfast, dinner would be equally delicious. Accessibility The hotel has lifts for those who need it for any mobility issues. As well as a slope going up to the pool area but not sure about how you would get into the pool if, for example, you were or someone in the group was wheelchair bound. But the hotel will know more and they would be happy to answer any questions. Location Quite a quiet resort it's more for couples wanting a quiet chilled relax holiday/ short break or small group of adults like us again who wanted to relax. If you wanted to stay longer then i would reckon maybe hire a car or make use of the buses. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but I didnt pay attention to times or where it went. There does seem to be a main bus station area by the beach so I do think the resort is well connected the website for buses is https://www.tib.org/en/inici (I think). But I'm sure the hotel staff would be happy to help. We found that shops shut up early (6pm) so any souvenirs or snacks you want I would get in the day time! Again, for those who have mobility issues, it's relatively flat once you get down to the harbour. Bit of a hill going back up to hotel but it's not steep. Restaurants We went out for dinner and really enjoyed RestoBar along where the beach is. It did lovely Italian food. The staff are nice but they are incredibly busy and sometimes the customer service bit got a little lost as they were flitting from one thing to another. Do not bother with Restaurante Flamingo which is up the stairs and on the cliff face. It has lovely views but my goodness the staff were miserable, the canopies were absolutely caked in bird crap as were the chairs and the table had seen better days. We got there for dinner and instantly felt like we had made a mistake and left shortly after without eating. Beach It took us about 15/20 minutes to walk to the beach we were doing a slow walk though. There are different ways you can go, we would recommend following the harbour round rather than the back streets. The beach is lovely there is a smallish area with sunbeds and umbrellas they are 15.50 euros for two for the day. It was lovely and clean from what we experienced and the water clear and cool. There is a little bar (Chillax I think it's called) which did drinks and obviously you have all the restaurants and cafes. I would get there early to get a sunbed or buy yourself a parasol as there isn't any shade and you'll be a lobster by lunch if you don't. There are some glass bottomed boats and boat trips on offer we didn't go on any as our trip was only short so can't comment but just as an FYI. Caves We visited the caves during our stay which is opposite the hotel. I would recommend prebooking directly on the website it's about 17.50 euros per person. It gets really booked up so book before you go so you can get your chosen time and day. Really cool, they have a mini concert with musicians on a rowing boat playing classical music. It's only short but it was really lovely. You can then get on a rowing boat to get to the other side of the caves or walk over a bridge. We took the rowing boat which was cool. Don't book via other sites if you are staying at this hotel because you'll pay an extortionate price one website wanted 46£ for the same thing you get by booking directly on the cave website. They said about a boat trip which came off as you get a boat around all of the cave....its a rowing boat that lasts 2 minutes if that. All in all a wonderful stay and we will be returning.

"Lovely staff & lovely hotel"

8.0

Just returned from this lovely hotel. On the whole we had a really nice time. The hotel is very clean & staff work exceptional hard to keep it that way. It is true what everyone says - the staff really are the friendliest people you will ever meet (shout out to Stefan). The day beds are so comfortable & there is never an issue getting one to relax on. The only (constructive) criticisms I have are that the beds in the rooms are way too hard, my partner & I cannot say we had a comfortable nights sleep on them. The pool is way too warm - it’s definitely not a refreshing dip on a hot day! And finally the bar prices are ridiculously high - we found it cheaper to buy locally & sit on our balcony, which is a shame because the bar area is lovely. Like I said - this isn’t a moan or complaint - just a couple of things that could have turned our experience from good to excellent.

"Could be better"

6.0

We arrived on 14th of june late at night around 1am. Wasn't offered a free drink as some guests got on arival after reading some reviews. Transfer with jet2 about 55 minutes as was first drop off and last pick up on return. We asked for a high floor but was told to try the following day but just wanted to just get unpacked so left it. We had room 214 slight view of harbour and roundabout view. The aircon was rubbish waste of time. The bathroom was very small. Free safe and free WiFi. Cleaned everyday but one day she missed us so had to get clean towels from reception. The location was up a hill not to far walk to harbour or darach caves. We were bed and breakfast. Where we had our meals it was too warm aircon again useless. One day we had mouldy bread and most of the time the bread was stale. Fresh eggs, omelette, and pancakes. Cooked as you ordered. Food at the pool bar expensive and drinks. 6.95 a pint of lager. We brought cans from the supermarket. The gym was the only place with great aircon. Sunday to Thurs we filled our water up in the gym then on the Friday they took it away. That was good while it lasted. The pool water like a hot tub as something was broke, after lots of complaints by the Friday they opened the exclusive area up with a dip pool that was cool. That's normally 25 euros each per day apparently. Not worth that. There's quite a few steps around the hotel. Some beds on sand aswell. The staff were friendly but I found there need some improvements here and there. ie better aircon in the rooms and especially in the restaurant, bigger bathrooms, definitely the pool sorting, fresh bread at breakfast not stale or with mold on. The water putting back in the gym so people can use it. The weather was red hot. Had a nice holiday but wouldn't go back to the resort as I found not much to do. Nice for a couple of days

"Perfect Stay!!"

10.0

Stayed here for a week with my girlfriend in mid-June and had an amazing time! The rooms were lovely and comfortable and the pool area was a perfect place to spend the day, with both Bali-beds and sunlounge's as an option. The staff were all lovely, particularly Jordi and Martina from the pool bar who made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend for couples looking for a relaxing holiday!

"Staff make this holiday and hotel is stunning"

10.0

5 star not 4! From the moment you arrive staff make you feel welcomed. The hotel is stunning, food lovely, really couldn’t wish for more. I think there was a fault with the water temperature of the pool as this was very warm but this was literally the only thing, slightly wrong. Jeordie really makes the pool and bar area, Stefan and Corale in the restaurant and bar and Fadoua in reception and helps if you need anything, they are all really lovely and welcoming and can’t do enough for you. We will 100% return, thanks for a wonderful week x

"Fabulous Holiday"

10.0

I booked a last minute break at the Hotel Ankaa as I wanted to visit Porto Cristo. My first impressions were very good as I was greeted by a very friendly young lady. Very important when you are travelling alone . My room was on the front of the hotel with a lovely view of the harbour. A pleasant surprise was a couple of complimentary bottles of water and sodas in the fridge. Apparently this was because the room was an upgrade. Beach towels are provided with no deposit required. Nice bathroom with plenty of hot water. I chose half board there was a lot of choice and variety of dishes for both breakfast and dinner with show cooking station. Friday evening there was a great male singer and Wednesday fabulous female singer. The outside eating area was wonderful but there were also 2 seperate inside dining areas. The pool area was fabulous. The pool was large and warm plenty of sun beds plus a higher area with Bali beds set on fine sand. The standard of cleanliness everywhere in the hotel was very high. The cleaning ladies were smart and very pleasant. The hotel was set on a hill and the centre of Porto Cristo about 15 minutes walk away. Nice little bars and restaurants plus enough shops. The harbour was very pleasant plus a gently shelving beach with nice sand plus boats trips operated from here. For me the Caves of Drach were a huge highlight. I arrived early and managed to get a front row seat. The concert was very moving and the number of stalactites and stalagmites was staggering. I will return to this hotel as it suited my needs completely
