"Overnight stay"

5.0

This was an overnight stop. The room was a double sea view which was a fair size and quite nice. I found the bed quite comfy, my husband didn't. Can't please everyone! There was tea and coffee in room. Breakfast was good. The usual cooked assortment laid out buffet style.

The shower was a very small cubicle and awkward to shower properly. The stairs were very steep and twisting with awkward opening doors to navigate. The hotel was typical seaside accommodation that was a bit run down and in need of a make over. Carpet was stained and had seen better days as was the wallpaper etc.

"very poor Clifton is run down and in Dior need of revamping"

3.0

Room was in need of painting and revitalising kept banging my head on TV coming out of the toilet woken up at 5:00am by kitchen staff using microwave and banging the door for breakfast, breakfast was ok but no hash browns choice of eggs or yoghurts supplied.

Room was in a poor state mould on ceiling in bathroom, room was shabby and needed painting and refurb, the room we had was nothing like the room advertised. Kitchen staff very noisy in the mornings we only staid one night due to the room and noise.

The hotel is well located and close to the sea, but the parking area is shared with everyone, not just hotel guests. The hotel does not have its own dedicated guest parking. Since the car park is on the main road, it can be difficult to find a space.

The hotel was very dirty, old, and poorly maintained. It looked nothing like the photos. There was mould in the corners, ceiling panels were falling down, and the carpet was so dirty that it felt unpleasant to walk on it. Everything was old and falling apart. Even the bathroom door handle came off. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I would not recommend this hotel. The breakfast was of very poor quality, with the cheapest ingredients. The only positive thing was that the staff were friendly and polite.

Free parking on the road

Very disappointing stay – certainly not the "best sea view" experience we expected. After an 8-hour drive back towards Devon from Scotland, and being 7½ months pregnant, we were looking forward to putting our feet up for the night. When we arrived at the Clifton Seafront Hotel, reception was unmanned. We rang the number displayed on the door and were told someone would be with us shortly. A few minutes later, a member of staff arrived smelling strongly of cigarette smoke and checked us in. We were told we had been allocated a top-floor room with the "best sea views." The hotel itself appeared run down, but as we were only staying for one night, we were willing to overlook that. However, when we finally made it upstairs with all of our luggage, we discovered that our room hadn't been cleaned at all. The bed was unmade from the previous guests, towels were left on the floor, and the lights had been left on. Check-in started at 3:00 pm and we didn't arrive until 4:45 pm, so this was completely unacceptable. I called reception to explain the situation and was asked to come back downstairs so another room could be found. We were given the option of waiting around 30 minutes for another sea-view room to be cleaned, taking a twin room with sea views, or accepting a standard double room with a £15 refund for the difference. At that point, all we wanted was somewhere to put our bags down and enjoy a cup of tea while looking out at the sea, so we chose the first-floor twin room. Unfortunately, that room was also very disappointing. It was tired and run down, which we had expected to some extent, but the cleanliness was another issue entirely. There were no mattress protectors on the beds, one bed was missing its headboard, the cushions looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a long time, and there was dirt and grime throughout the room. It left me feeling very uncomfortable.
