Host & Stay - Austen House

Exceptional House. 6 of us (3 couples) stayed from 30th December 2024 for 3 nights. All rooms were spacious clean and very tastefully decorated. The house was warm and very welcoming to the eye when you first arrive. beds were comfortable, and bed linen was carefully chosen and matching and spotless, everywhere was spot on. We wouldn't hesitate to book this House again. Well done to the owner Austen House is a Great place to stay. 5***** K,T,J,C,H,T.

Only issue we found was there wasn't enough serving Bowls in the Kitchen, we did cook some meals and the lack of Large serving dishes was apparent - other than that the kitchen didn't lack anything.

We had a lovely stay at the property over the Christmas holidays. It’s a beautiful house, the location is fabulous. We had views of Whitby Abbey from our bedroom. The welcome fizz and Christmas Tree in the lounge were a nice touch.

A couple of negatives that could have been improved on, the lamp in the hallway was broken, the electricity socket for the lamp and TV in our bedroom didn’t work. Also the remotes for the bedroom TVs were missing. We found a selection of remotes downstairs but all needed batteries. We all agreed that the pillows in the bedrooms were rubbish, missing protectors and generally didn’t offer any support. There was also a half used, dirty loo roll in the basement loo. Finally the house is ready for a deep clean, very dusty behind the TV, furniture etc.

Beautifully presented house, extremely homely and comfortable. Spacious rooms. Lovely views. Welcome basket and a lovely surprise bottle of wine in fridge. Would definitely recommend.

Felt like they were a bit mean with basic provisions. Only 1 bin bag provided, family of 8 staying 4 days, preparing meals e. c. t 1 bin bag not enough. No recycling facilities all rubbish goes in same wheelybin hence kitchen bin filled up quickly. No dishcloth /sponge provided to wash pots, or wipe down surfaces/table or clean the hob with. only 1 tea towel for family of 8 staying for 4 days. Dishwasher provided but some pots we needed to wash. 1 inch of washing up liquid provided, no hand soap or hand towel. Supply of toilet rolls didn't last 5 minutes. Property didn't look or smell very clean. Very dusty in lounge, kitchen lights thick in dust, cobwebs. Dirty washing left on washer. No washing pods, just an empty tub! Didn't expect for price we paid to have to go out buying bin bags, dishhcloths, toilet rolls, e. c. t

for the price the house was amazing. I dont think the pictures of the kitchen/dining area do it enough justice. would 100% recommend staying here.

Central location & space & little touches like the welcome basket & all the games & jigsaws were much appreciated.

One of the showers was very slow to empty & some, but not many areas, could do with a more thorough clean.
