The Artesian

Fantastic hotel from a price and physical structure standpoint. However, when I tried to extend my stay by one day, I was told (after five phone calls) that I could have the room for TRIPLE the cost of my original booking. This really soured my view of Sonder and how they do business.

Location

Light wouldn’t shut off…you had to turn the breaker off which turned off all lights. Couch had multiple stains on it.

We had a great stay at the Sonder Artesian. It is in a great location with lots of restaurants and coffee places nearby. The Golden Hour on the ground level was a perfect place to have a drink and relax.

The staff is pretty quick to respond online. It’s modern/basic but has everything you need. Really no issues?

This property was perfect for us, we were visiting our daughter who lives less than 2 miles away. Property was clean and quiet. Would stay here again, recommend.

The Sonder is like a nicer hostel. It is an affordable option (cheaper than many of the nearby hotels). This particular Sonder was in a good location - the neighborhood was cute, and you can walk to downtown (about a mile). The rooms are smaller than a hotel room, but fine! My room was clean and I appreciated the tv and the small kitchen and small table.

One of the biggest issues during my stay was that an alarm (it sounded like a broken smoke detector that needed a battery replaced - although they said it was the elevator) was beeping loudly for 2 whole days. No joke, I timed it, and the alarm went off every 30 seconds. It was definitely annoying, and I could hear it in my room. After full days, it made it hard to relax in my room and it impacted my sleep. I contacted the Sonder chat/customer service multiple times over the same issue. Initially they made it seem like they would be sending someone out immediately in the morning to address the issue. However, that wasn't true, and it was another whole day before it was fixed. Customer service had also said that they wanted to compensate me for the annoyance with $100 off my next stay. But once again, that was all talk, and they never followed through with it - which is a little sketchy. Why make that offer, if you aren't going to follow through? Customer service is easy to contact, and they are responsive, but it felt like they tell you what you want to hear and don't actually do anything useful to help. A few other things to keep in mind - there are very limited storage lockers - I believe there are only 4-6 and it seemed like they were full most days. So do NOT expect to be able to securely store your belongings if you arrive early. Have a backup plan. Also, there were initially issues with my code to get into the building, but that was resolved relatively quickly. Just remember, there is no one on site to help you, so any problems you have, you will need to go through the chat/customer service to get it resolved. Lastly, the electrical socket in the bathroom stopped working towards the end of my stay. There was nothing to reset it and at that point, it didn't feel worth it to contact customer service over another issue.

The location was near some restaurants that a friend recommended (e.g., Linger) and it was a short bus ride downtown. The earplugs and noise machine were nice touches and definitely helped me sleep. Pleasantly surprised by all the amenities (e.g., dishwasher, stovetop, cookware).

It would have been nice if Sonder had emergency feminine hygiene products available for guests alongside the spare coffee packs, soap, etc.
