Emerald Hotel Residence

I've never seen such clean place in Phnom Penh. Especially when they have dormitory rooms. The lounge was neat / clean, even sink and the cooking place seemed alright which is pretty rare in the city. If any of you have a bug issue, this is the place you should go. The streets around it is not so clean(ahd this you should not expect in the first place), but this hotel stands out. It is a default to witness a cockroach sometime during your stay even if you stay in a good hotel, in the Indochinese region, but I've never seen one here staying for 3~4 days. I wanted to change my room at 10pm and they told me they would do it the day after. Clean and modern.

There are some permenant residents staying in the dormitory. There were 2 people in the first room I was given and they didn't want ANYTHING to do with me. No eye contact, no saying hi, nothing. A complete neglection. Which I understand(if they live there, they must've seen newcomers every 3 days) but still not a pleasant experience. It is not pleasant to stay with someone who hates your presence in the room. I felt like I was intruding their personal space. One guy didn't speak English/Khmer(Cambodian), I wondered what he is doing in this country. I felt unsafe and finally asked for a different room and there were 3 other travelers there and it was all fine. but if I HAD to stay with the permanent residence, the experience must've been a bit worse. If you hate to be interrupted / don't want nothing to do with other travelers, ask them to give a room with permanent residents.

Great location with all the essentials - especially a nice shower.

There was long hairs all over the floor when I arrived so could be more thorough with cleaning.

Rooms were immaculate, well presented and clean.

Communal kitchen was not clean

Hotel room was exceptionally clean. Even more than my expectation.

The location of the sink is quite inconvenient. It's located outside of the bathroom, and right at the room entrance. This area could get wet when washing, which is uncomfortable.

Don’t understand why this isn’t a 9+ on booking.com. Exceptionally clean, modern, great place. Very comfortable beds. Excellent facilities for showers toilets etc. friendly staff able to give local recommendations. Very glad I stayed here

Didn’t have as social an atmosphere as some other hostels might , partially because this is a hotel-hostel hybrid

No hair dryers, body wash etc No towels Showers are located inside the dorm room so you might wake others up if you come in late Very creaky beds Does not have any community or hostel feel at all. Beds are very basic, top bunk has zero privacy, no personal light.
