Waldorf Astoria Helsinki

The hotel itself is undeniably beautiful. The rooms are stunning, well appointed, and visually everything you would expect from a Waldorf Astoria. Unfortunately, two major issues significantly impacted our stay. First, we arrived after a long delayed journey at dinner time to find the restaurant fully booked. While that can happen, we then ordered room service for a very simple meal three burgers and chips. It took over an hour to arrive, and when it did, the chips were stone cold and the burgers were severely undercooked. We specifically requested well done and received medium rare. One burger meal was refunded, but that did little to salvage the experience after such a long travel day. Second, and more frustrating, was the room lighting system. The rooms have automatic motion sensor lights that activate whenever you move. During the night, any movement triggered multiple lights across the room and bathroom, repeatedly waking everyone. A bellman attempted to fix this by gaffer taping one sensor, which only solved part of the problem. Another bathroom light continued turning on throughout the night. The result was a genuinely awful night’s sleep when rest was badly needed. The front desk apologised and offered a few complimentary beers at the bar, but this did not come close to compensating for a ruined night, poor food quality, and lack of real resolution. A beautiful hotel in appearance, but the combination of bad room service and a completely impractical lighting system made this a stay we would not repeat.

The hotel carries the Waldorf-Astoria name and the price tag to match, but the beige-and-brass style already feels dated. Many of the staff were genuinely warm, and their attitude was the strongest part of the stay, you can see they’re trying. What fell short was the standard expected from this brand. No welcome drink, no fruit, not even a simple card in the room. Check in felt a bit awkward, and at check out I found myself carrying my luggage down the steps while staff were nearby. I also reached out before my stay for help arranging a guide and never received the promised follow-up. It’s a good hotel with kind people, but it doesn’t yet live up to the reputation its name suggests.

A beautifully renovated old building with a modern touch. We had a two-storey spa suite with its own sauna and a large bathtub. Stunning. The hotel offers excellent service and a great breakfast. The only small downside is the location, as it’s not right in the very center. Still, it’s only about a ten-minute walk to Senate Square.

What a wonderful addition to Helsinki! I don’t intend on staying anywhere else now that I’ve visited the Waldorf. Clean, comfortable, new - what more could you ask for? Was there for work so didn’t get to spend time in the spa, but it looked lovely. Extra praise for Nikita for being very friendly and helpful, and Joel for bringing some liveliness to the bar room.

Even if you never left the hotel you would have a magnificent holiday! The hotel is just gorgeous. Calm, beautiful, spotless with luxury furnishings and room accessories and sublime design. The staff at the desk are so helpful and friendly and helped us choose between the two restaurants on our list. We chose Seahorse and weren’t disappointed - it was everything we hoped. Equally the breakfast staff are so friendly and cheerful. This hotel might be a little more than some of the others in Helsinki but it is worth every penny. We can’t wait to return.

A world-class serene stay with a Nordic feel - personal service, a beautiful breakfast, a superb suite and wellness spa. Luxury done right. I’d return in a heartbeat and recommend it without hesitation.
