"There’s a bathtub on my balcony!"

10.0

I can’t recommend Desolation Hotel enough. The staff was beyond courteous and dropped everything to help me whenever I had a question. The location is perfect to the beaches and the casinos. But above all the rooms were fantastic! Every minute detail was thought of to elevate the look of the hotel and the rooms, and to make you feel comfortable and at home. I took a bath in my balcony tub every night. Yes, that’s right. You get a balcony tub. Plus you get access to a private beach, free bicycle to roam the town, and access to an onsite sauna and cold shower. This place is the tops!

"Don't miss the Desolation experience"

Immaculate rooms with granite soaking tubs on your balcony, Dyson hairdryer, skylights that close for those who enjoy a late morning or nap, fireplaces in your living room, bedroom, and on your balconies where you can enjoy your coffee, and luxury bedding. On top of all this, the entire property is pet friendly for our fur babies to enjoy. The staff at Desolation definitely provides you the VIP treatment, as well as warmth. Don't miss booking a sauna. Also, the best restaurant in Tahoe is on site: Maggie's. Maggie's offers a varied menu, delicious food, and warm and wonderful servers and staff. What a perfect location, with perfectly planned accommodations. I can't wait to come back for another stay! "Amazing, one of our favorites!"

10.0

Stunning micro resort with beautifully and thoughtfully appointed rooms. Attention to detail is phenomenal. Hotel amenities, including the heated outdoor pool and spa were excellent. Lots of on site charging stations for EVs. Service was amazing, with friendly, helpful staff, although they aren’t on site in the evenings. We stayed here with multiple families. The rooms were big and spacious for those with 3 family members, but a bit tight for those with 4, especially since we were traveling with our ski gear (lots of big suitcases). Next time, we may opt for villas, which include their own garage. Access to skiing was pretty good. No hotel shuttle, but you can walk to the gondola by the Marriott, in about 5-10 minutes depending on whether you’re lugging gear or not. We opted to just drive to the California lodge and park there, but be sure to check to see if parking reservations are required at the ski resort. In the evenings, it’s a quick walk to the village for food and entertainment. We also ate in the hotel restaurant one evening, and thought it was excellent. Only suggestions for improvement might be to add Toto washlets to the bathrooms, as that would complete this as one of our favorite hotels ever! Highly recommend!

Overall customer service was good. Quality and value of stay was good as well.

Some amenities were non-working. Had to ask the staff to turn temperature down in gym from 83 degrees to something appropriate in the 70s. Blind in bedroom was nonworking, had to ask staff to repair. Privacy blind in living room broke as well and had to be repaired. Complimentary housekeeping does not clean your room. Rather just a refresh with new towels and bed making. No new sheets or cleaning of restrooms or kitchen or floors. Last day of our stay the staff forgot to tell housekeeping to clean our room. Also we got locked out of our room in our last day because the system checked us out. Also the jacuzzi was not working on multiple occasions. The spa temperature was working intermittently according to staff. Also the onsite restaurant didn't cook our venison at the correct temp and gnocchi was raw and the dish had to be sent back. Family was already done eating by the time the dish was ready and we asked staff to comp the dish and we were given a couple of drinks for free to make up for it. That was helpful but we didn't want to patron the restaurant again. Underneath the couch bed, there were old gummy candies from a previous resident. Also the indoor bathtub jets were filthy from old mold. Just some disappointing experiences, but hopefully they can be addressed. We hope to stay at the property again.
