Pretty cabins in trees and very scenic

Right next to a loud highway and they messed up my room reservation last minute

The hotel is in the middle of kirkwood and heavenly resorts so it’s easy to get to either. It’s a cute community with beautiful decoration and covered by lots of snow. Fireplace in the room gives cozy vibe and keeps the cabin really warm (auto thermo controlled) There’re also outdoor fire pit available for social times. The check in and check out processes were so easy. We loved our stay. Cherry on top is that it’s super pet friendly. And they have excellent kitchen and utensils, cooking tools, pans, and even a full set of seasonings!! + real fire stove and an oven. Amazing!!!!!

Desolation Hotel Hope Valley is honestly one of my favorite places anywhere in the world (and I've traveled a lot). Incredibly charming, completely authentic, it just fits perfectly in the amazing natural mountain environment where it sits. Each individual cabin is it's own unique treasure. The restaurant is simple and warm and the outdoor bar surrounded by deep snow is the most charming thing you've ever seen!

We love Desolation Hotel and it’s become a special place for us to enjoy each winter. The staff is so accommodating and friendly, the sauna and snowy oasis is extremely relaxing, and each cabin is properly equipped to enjoy cozy times indoors; all in a place very close to popular ski destinations. We appreciate the attention to detail the team puts into making it a sweet experience and we’ve stayed in 3 different cabins, all of them great.

All the details are right. Super cozy cabins (beds and linens more comfortable than at home, which is usually not the case at hotels!) and great amenities. The restaurant on site was great and we had a fantastic time here with 2 small kids.

With a little kid, select a cabin without stairs, they are precarious for crawlers/early walkers.

Had the most amazing time. So quiet and peaceful... and the food at the restaurant was very good. I stayed in the foxtail cabin. The entire staff is very kind and welcoming. I snowboarding one day at Sierra and another day at Kirkwood. The air bnb's in Tahoe either didn't have good reviews, but were affordable, or they were nice, but super expensive. I'm so glad I stayed here instead!

Updated rooms, design, appliances (Dyson hair dryer!), access to sauna and free snowshoes. There were only cast iron pans - which could be good or bad, depending on your preference.

Sauna was more of a self serve experience - you had to make sure it is actually hot and there is wood in the stove, otherwise it would be barely warm. Somehow in our 4 person cabin we had only 3 of everything: chairs, cups, plates. The staff helped us with missing items, but I hope they would just reference the actual number of guests next time.
