The Grand Canyon Headquarters

Our stay at The Grand Canyon Headquarters was unfortunately marked by numerous issues that left us feeling incredibly disappointed. While the property itself is in a beautiful location, it’s overshadowed by a lack of basic attention to guest needs and comfort, which I believe should be a given for any hotel. 1. Dangerous Access Road (Not Mentioned in Booking): Reaching the hotel was a nightmare. The road leading there is practically destroyed, making it a serious risk for a regular car. We genuinely feared damaging our rental car—this is a critical detail that was left out of the Booking description. 2. Nonexistent Wi-Fi: We had absolutely no Wi-Fi during our stay, which was frustrating and inconvenient. Despite informing the hotel at 5:11 PM on our first day, we received no response or solution, leaving us feeling ignored. 3. Questionable Cleanliness: Upon arrival, we found hairs in the bed, which is just unacceptable. This left us questioning the overall cleanliness standards of the property. 4. Missing Essentials: There was no hairdryer in the room, which, while a small amenity, would have made a difference. It’s surprising that such a basic item was unavailable. 5. Poor Outdoor Lighting: The pathways were poorly lit due to multiple broken spotlights. Walking back to the room at night, especially after using the barbecue, was uncomfortably dark. 6. Lack of Safety Measures: The property has no fence, which leaves it exposed to wildlife. This is unsettling, especially for guests unfamiliar with the local fauna. 7. Filthy Barbecue Area: The barbecue, which could have been a lovely addition, was dirty and unfit for use. We didn’t feel comfortable using it as it was. This experience could have been entirely different with basic improvements and attentiveness. It’s incredibly disappointing because the hotel has so much potential but misses the mark on essential services and comfort.

I liked the common room with water and games. I also enjoyed the serenity and peace the property had.

The roads getting to the property were terrible! A 4WD vehicle is a must.

The conceptual idea for this place is absolutely fantastic - a nice cabin far from light pollution, allowing you to relax and enjoy the night sky. The implementation, however, is absolutely terrible.

First of all, there are almost no signs indicating that you're on the right path. The host warns you that the road is unpaved, but what they don't tell you is that some parts of the road are pure sand (i.e., you can get stuck even with AWD and high clearance car if you have no experience navigating such terrains). What's worse is that there are a few big rocks in the middle of the road, here and there, which you absolutely must avoid, which makes driving quite tricky. Notably, nothing stops the host from making the road more accessible -- starting from removing those rocks (which are big enough to be carried by the wind) and ideally hardening the road a bit (like it is done by the hosts of a different place which is on the road to the GCH). Finally, in real life the place looks sketchy and we didn't feel safe to stay.

What is it with glass doors in bathrooms??? I can’t imagine anyone thinking that’s a good idea! Just don’t get it!!!

Only after booking, the accommodation informs you that you need a 4x4 to access the road as the road is "bobbly". This is not just bobbly. It took us 45 mins with our Sedan each time for 3 miles. I can't imagine this when it would rain. In case you want to cancel the reservation they offer that you can book the nights at another date. Not really practical if you fly back 3 days later. I felt tricked due to this malpractice.

If you appreciate staying away from crowded places, that is the one of choice. It s a very nice house. They have a telescope to see the stars and a log fire in the kitchen/living room that creates a nice atmosphere. The house has very large windows in the living room and in the bedroom. It is nicely decorated with attention to the details.

It would be appreciated that the information of the road conditions are provided in the summary sections before the booking, so that the people are aware of it and can make their choice. The road is pretty bad and the weather has to be sunny, otherwise it can be dangerous to drive without an off-road car. There are lots of holes and with the rain you can get stuck because of the mud. If the weather is shitty you will not get refunded but you will receive a coupon that for a tourist is not very helpful.

Definitely, you can isolate yourself in the middle of a grass field, however the house is divided in two apartments in the same complex, therefore not really private. Finishing of the interior is nicely done.

The street to reach the location is terrible and takes 20 min from the main paved street to reach the location. You better have a SUV and book a carwash to clean the car right after. Not 100% privacy guaranteed. Btw, we were worried to consume too much water…

Quiet and beautiful casita. Handcarts had been available to get your stuff to the casita without any hassle. Fast and friendly response by the staff. I felt well informed about the road conditions to get to the casitas before booking.

Here and there after the first 3 years small things could use a little bit of improvement: hard to open and close sliding door could use some adjustments, 2 small plates for 2 guests instead of 1, labeling of soaps etc. could use an update. Small things to keep the good rating.
