I really enjoyed my stay at Alobar1000 Hostel. AJ at the reception was amazingvery friendly, helpful, and welcoming from the moment I arrived. He gave great tips about the city and made check-in smooth. The hostel itself has a nice social vibe, clean rooms, and comfortable common areas where it’s easy to meet other travelers. The location is convenient and overall it felt safe and relaxed.

Nothing major to complain about. Sometimes it can be a bit noisy because it’s a social hostel, but that’s expected and part of the experience. Overall, it didn’t affect my stay much.

The dorm rooms were clean, housekeeping done after checkout, not everyday. The bathrooms were cleaned multiple times a day Hot water was available almost always and it was good Breakfast is actually yummy here Cafe area is super cute and vibey There’s a pool area too (but it’s winter in Nepal so I didn’t enter it!)

Very male centered hostel No curtains or blinds on any windows, including the female dorm Balconies are interconnected with other male/mixed dorms and there’s no locks on the windows too. Not many females stayed solo here in the female dorm except one other girl. You are not allowed to wash your clothes here, you also are not allowed to dry them. And they also don’t offer any kind of laundry service. These services are available at a short walks distance at exorbitant rates. Residents of neighbouring buildings watch the female dorm when women change because there are no curtains. When I complained to Sunaina that I’m being watched, she said yes we don’t put up any curtains (no further explanation), and no temporary measures were taken either. As a woman I don’t understand how you can take a complaint like this so casually. I would have gone to police if I had a longer stay there because curtains/blinds should be basic in every establishment, to provide a safe environment for women travelling alone. The staff is generally clueless about what to do when someone asks for something, they also know nothing about Thamel or Kathmandu and can’t help you much. The cafe lady couldnt remember an order to save her life and the cafe boys don’t clear tables for hours and dirty plates just sit there. They seemed younger 20 year olds trying to wing it by saying “no” to everything. How they have a hostel running is beyond me. Alobar is the oldest hostel in Thamel and it’s disappointing that a bunch of kids can ruin that reputation completely. Personally I don’t think this place is for females at all. Maybe boys who survive the wild can stay here comfortably. It’s a good thing it’s clean and cheap because that’s all it had to offer!
