Calma Cafe - Surf, Stay and Yoga

We kwamen hier om een paar dagen te ontspannen, en het bood precies dat. Het is kleinschalig en gelegen op een rustig strand. Ook kan je met de tuk tuk gemakkelijk naar heriketiya. We hebben hier praktisch elke dag (van de 5) genoten van het ontbijt, de lunch en ook tweemaal het avond eten. Dit is erg lekker. Ook hebben ze een super goeie surf leraar welke aandacht voor je heeft en je verder helpt in je skills.

Het eten duurt soms iets langer, maar wij vonden dit ook een beetje horen bij de charme van de plek.

Weg van alle drukte met een eigen privé strand. Het personeel was super gastvrij. Het was laag seizoen daardoor waren we de enige gasten maar ze hebben ons zeer goed geholpen. Kwam je uit de zee dan lagen de zitzakken voor je klaar. De jongens hebben 3 dagen surfles gehad en ze verzorgde een vis bbq voor ons. Ik beveel deze locatie van harte aan.

Het lag niet op loopafstand van de drukke stranden en eettentjes, 45 minuten lopen. Maar er werd eenvoudig een tuk tuk voor je geregeld dus je was er zo.

Beautiful location with great access to a quiet beach with excellent waves for surfing. A great option if you want to escape the bustle of Hiriketiya. Bean bags, parasols and plenty of space make this a great place to relax during the day. There is also the option to rent surfboards or have lessons. Staff were accommodating when we decided to shorten our trip.

We may have been unlucky since it was New Year, but having chosen this as a quiet retreat and location to relax, we were surprised by how noisy it was in the evening. Unfortunately, we were also greeted by a number of flying bugs inside the bed and bedroom when we checked in - this was swiftly dealt with though. The food was ok - be aware that if you want to stay here for a number of days, that there are no other food options within walking distance. Having said that, Hiriketiya is only a short tuk-tuk ride away.

Really lovely location on a private beach. Garden also lovely that leads directly onto the beach.

One day, the staff hosted a reggae festival with loud music and a live band. Our room was right next to the event, and the noise was so intense that it shook the whole room. It felt like the staff were enjoying the party more than the guests, and we ended up staying out most of the day and night to escape the noise, which was really disappointing. The next day, there was a power outage all day, meaning no air conditioning and no water for showers. When we raised our concerns, the management didn’t seem to care, which was frustrating. The breakfast quality varied each day, and some mornings were better than others. The room was quite basic, with the toilet located in the main area and only a low half-wall separating it from the bedroom. The drain in the shower had a bad smell, and there were ants in the shower.

Very peaceful location on a great beach. Ideal for those wanting to learn / try surfing. Room was great, good size and nicely laid out. Coffee pretty good.

Food menu is quite limited. No card payment…it’s 2025.

Calma is on a heavenly beach for quiet contemplation and swimming/surfing fun. Not hectic at all, you can melt into the space. Services are limited and hospitality focused on young surfer crowd but we made do as we are a fairly low maintenance family. Rooms cleaned every other day, breakfast limited variety but very fresh. No greeting or farewell but perhaps that is part of the chill vibe. Could use a bit more hospitality to send this place to another level. But I can see how they may not want to attract such clientele- surf instructors enjoyed environment as much as guests! Enjoy but be prepared to fend for yourself for sorting things out. Peace out.

Rooms are v stylish ,nicely decorated

I complained yo the owner about the water pressure in the bathroom ,which was v weak ,but the issue couldn’t be solved and I was compensated with a 50% discount for the last night of my stay and I stayed there for three nights
