B50 - Main Square Apartment in Lagos

Good location, near old town shopping.

Rental agency runs property, so no pride of ownership and they don’t receive the negative reviews, the room does. Limited toilet paper for 4 people. We had to ask for more. They stated that you need to purchase your own (but they did provide with additional rolls). No amenities in the house: tissue, paper towels, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, salt, sugar, etc. The toiletries that are offered are useful for a single person. This was most stressful- the shower water pours out of the shower, (into the bathroom and then into the hall) profusely and there are no towels or anything to dry up. This was most distressing and very unfortunate. The tile is slick and this causes a slipping hazard. Also, no additional towels to clean up. Pitch black in hallways and when attempting to get into your room. The key and lock is stuck at main front glass (when closed/locked) when attempting to enter the apartment complex and given the pitch blackness, you have to use a light source or you’re not likely getting in. Tricky to get into the room with the location, dark halls and no lighting, the ancient elevator. Difficult to navigate a new place (even after we were there for a day) when it’s pitch black in hallway while attempting to get into the room. Reported this to the rental agency who stated that it’s an apartment “problem” and not a rental agency problem and therefore they cannot fix. Definitely would not recommend any older people or people with ambulation concerns. Shower dirty with pink mold in grout (supposed to be white) and hair on shower walls. Carpet dirty and needed vacuuming but obviously hasn’t been done in some time. “Free parking” is a mile away and not guaranteed. Paid parking nearby at €10 per day during off season (€17 daily during peak season) TV doesn’t work. TV is old generation flat screen, heavy and won’t get beyond a blue screen (not important but one in our group wanted to watch). Bed was firm and 1 flat pillow per person.

Convenience, cleanliness and location

Location, comfortable beds. Located first floor above a plaza with shops, cafes, restaurants and right across from Marina. Secure doors to apartment.

Parking only at parking lots (if lucky enough to get a spot) so have to schlep luggage a distance. Shower curtain leaks profusely and no barrier from pan so had to mop up due to water collection. No lights in building entry and staircase but not the fault of apartment owner.

Location

Let's go through in order: - the entrance door to the building is hard to open (you need to align it in the middle) - the interior of the building is dimly lit with electrical wires and cables sticking out of the wall in several places - it looks like a slum - on entering, the apartment smelled bad - the first thing we did was buy a bottle of air freshener - the toiletries are sample-size - 30ml. That made me laugh - only two small rolls of toilet paper for 4 people for 3 days, so we had to buy our own - the shower isn't tilted towards the drain so water runs off the edge into the room! - there's no working fan so there's black mold on the bathroom ceiling - the curtain rod was falling off the wall (when I told them about it they fixed it promptly) - the main wifi doesn't have internet - later I found a small mobile-internet wifi box that worked, so ignore the big wifi credentials by the door - use the login on the back of the small white box instead - the TV isn't connected to an antenna and the cable TV app doesn't work, so you can't use the TV - second morning we were left with NO ELECTRICITY! The rest of the building still had it, it's just this apartment. After complaining they sent someone to fix it. - next morning, NO ELECTRICITY again! By trial and error I found it was the hot water unit tripping the safety switch. So I was able to leave electricity on without it cutting off so long as I left the hot water service off - so NO HOT WATER! - they fine you if you don't take out the rubbish, so you have to take it out to a public bin in the street - to top it off, the cleaner showed up before checkout time on our last day!
