壬生宿 MIBU-JUKU Shichijo-Umekoji

We had a truly lovely Machiya experience. The space felt authentic and charming, giving us a real sense of traditional Japanese living while still being very comfortable and family-friendly. I had requested a Muslim-friendly breakfast, which came at a small additional cost, and it was delivered quietly to our doorstep right on time each morning. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made our mornings feel effortless and special. What stood out even more was the welcome box prepared just for us — complete with a prayer mat, prayer clothes, and basic utensils and dishes. These small but meaningful details showed a genuine effort to make our stay feel personal and considerate. Overall, it was a beautifully curated stay filled with warm touches, cultural charm, and thoughtful hospitality. It made us feel not just accommodated, but truly at home, and we are grateful for the care put into every detail.

It’s a little farther from the main tourist streets, and while I chose this place for its convenience to the station—especially with heavy luggage—in hindsight I might stay closer to Gion to reduce extra travel. I did arrive early around 12 pm and found the reception unattended, though I was eventually able to reach a staff member who kindly let us store our bags until check-in. A bit more daytime availability at reception would make arrivals smoother, but overall the stay was comfortable and pleasant.

A quaint & simple machiya

It was a bit difficult with an infant. If you’re a couple, it’s no issue i guess.

As we do not like to be in crowded locations, this was perfect as a base. Just one stop away from Kyoto station and we can take the bus to city etc. The machiya was very spacious, super clean and they were so thoughtful to have a halal friendly box of prayer garments, mat, bowls, counter and sponge etc. Highly recommend this place!

Everything was perfect. The staff is very helpful and kind. The place is very clean, neat and organized. Would definitely come back!

乾淨、舒適、房間裡面很美

Really cozy apartment in good location, just one stop from Kyoto station and with plenty options to go by bus. We loved the wooden bathtub.

Lack of cooking tools like pan, cutting knife, paper towels. Also lack of hangers in the bathroom.
