The Alma Taverns Boutique Suites - Room 4 - Hopewell

Ok so I read the reviews and it sounded like a bit of a mixed bag but I booked last minute, the cost was very reasonable and I was travelling alone and would be out all day and most evenings with work anyway so thought I had nothing to lose and can happily say my concerns were entirely unfounded and I’d happily stay here again and recommend to others. I stayed three nights in room 4 and everything worked, nothing was broken, everything was clean as you’d hope for. Room 4 is a very decent sized (for Clifton) en suite with a large bed, plenty of room to mover around and very comfortable. OK, the access stairs are definitely ‘back of house’ but really who cares and you can come and go easily 24 hrs as required. Staff at the tavern were courteous, friendly and efficient (this is an excellent pub and working theatre btw, well worth popping in for a pint or catching a show if it fits your plans). There’s no breakfast service as such but there is tea and coffee and plenty of fridge space should you want to use it. The management company, Hopewell, do send rather a lot of emails but this is obviously automated and as I booked almost en route they arrived in one tranche but it had all the info I needed for a smooth arrival and checkin. The one slightly bizarre thing is the £150 credit card deposit which I can confirm I was charged, but it’s disappeared from my credit card today, 2 working days after check out. I can see that this is a bit unusual and held back my review to see if this would indeed be refunded quickly and in full and it has so I guess no real problem if somewhat atypical.

Really welcoming staff, accessible parking over weekend, liked pantry for water/ milk / tea / coffee, king sized bed!! Comfy

Very warm weekend and wasn’t that well ventilated, lamps wasn’t working, smelt fusty/ Smokey a candle or reed diffuser would have made a difference

Come on Hopewell, over £100 a night and you cant fix the broken blinds (which would cost @ £40), I cut my finger on the sharp wood, and light streamed through early in the morning. Also the bedside lights did not work. Both these issues have been raised in previous reviews so why are you not mending these things. Only one spotlight in the shower room so showering in the dark. Boiling hot stuffy room need a portable fan. These rooms could be good but just not being maintained.....buck your ideas up Hopewell......

Lovely friendly staff :-) Comfy bed and we also enjoyed the complimentary breakfast cereal and coffee :-)

The bed side lamp was broken.
