Clifford House - 4 Bed Home Within The City Walls

Location was perfect

Cleanliness wasn't great :( especially in the kitchen where the oven and oven trays had been used previously and not washed up. Ditto with the frying pan and saucepans. General cleanliness wasn't great in the living room or bedrooms either. Two of the three light bulbs in the dining area were out, making it very dismal of an evening, and the garden light leading to the outside downstairs toilet ( which was not mentioned in the description as being an outside toilet) was also out making it difficult to use after 4.00pm when dark. Also, the toilet seats in both the bathroom and the outside toilet were broken Parking at the property was also an issue as it says there is parking for one vehicle outside the property, which I had requested, but no parking permit had been arranged. The host did eventually sort this out with a visitors parking permit, but I had to push to get it so not ideal, and not what you want after a 4 and a half hour drive. However, all that being said, we enjoyed our stay and loved York!

Only one bathroom for four bedroomed house is a bit of a challenge when you all want to get out for the same time. Downstairs toilet is beautifully decorated but getting to it in the rain wasn’t fun

Cleanliness!, we had to change the bedding when we arrived, there was even the previous occupants socks in the bed! Accommodation not hoovered through, toothpaste in the sink. Bathroom handle hanging off (I've since seen this mentioned in a past re iew so obviously not sorted) dangerous stairs situation top of stairs (not sure it would meet health & safety regs) listing states 2 bathrooms ..not the case, bathroom upstairs and an outside toilet! Photographs of rooms in listing are very different to those in real life. Property is shabby, carpets in bedrooms dirty and need replacing. Some Plug sockets and lamps not working, Luckily we had part of our party cancel as I wouldn't want anyone to stay in the beds on the grimm top floor.

Excellent location, beautiful place - modern kitchen big fan of glass roof above dining table!

The staircase didn't feel very safe, but owner did leave the night light and we got used to it in the end. Charm of old houses I suppose!

The Location was great. If you are planning to stay at this property you may want to check that they have rectified the issues that I have placed in the negative response.

There was no on site parking as advertised. They had not purchased the permits, we had to walk 40 minutes to park and our son had to pay £25 a day to park nearby as he had a young child. They blamed this on the council but still advertise parking. The forth bedroom is a loft room, it has no heating, no smoke detector, tall adults may struggle with the head height and you have to crawl into the single beds which are under the eaves. We refused to use it as we felt it was unsafe. The top of the stairs to the first floor is dangerous. They have a sign there to tell you to be careful. There really is only 4 dining chairs as shown in the pictures. If you plan to cook and eat for more than 4 people maybe you could contact the property to make sure there is enough dining chairs and enough cook/oven ware as there was not when we stayed. The sitting room has space for 5 people only. There is no second bathroom, it is an outside loo and very cold in the winter. Not a sufficient bathroom/loo ratio for the number of guests it is meant to accommodate. I have reported these issues to the owners but have had no reply apart from that the council has looked at the loft space and it is compliant.
