GBSadly what would have been a beautiful property was completely destroyed by such a disappointing dreadful stay.
I was extremely disappointed upon arriving at the property for a 4 PM check-in to discover it had not been cleaned that day, nor had it been maintained properly in a long time. Every room was beyond filthy. Despite numerous calls and emails (under poor WiFi conditions), it was too late on Saturday after 5 PM to have the cleaners return. We brought my partner's elderly parents, both in their late 70s, and it completely spoiled their holiday. We spent hours cleaning until 10:45 PM that night and continued again the next morning. We’re talking food and drinks stains on surfaces, filth from previous showers all over the shower glass doors. Floors not vacuumed or wood floor not cleaned. Horrible filthy sofa, blood stained bed sheets. Dust on bedside tables so thick that’s not from one weekend and the list goes on. We waited until 12:30 PM as promised, expecting to hear from the host and stay team or the property manager about the cleaners. Frustrated by the lack of communication, I emailed to express my annoyance and noted that sending anyone now was pointless since we had already cleaned the property. This is not what you expect when on holiday. I can’t convey how furious I am. It took a lot of self-control not to lose my temper with the agent trying to assist us. The level of uncleanliness was unlike anything I’ve ever encountered in a holiday home. We also attempted to find alternative accommodation, but the area was fully booked for both Saturday and Sunday, making it impractical to move the in-laws twice. If you’re going to advertise a holiday let with inviting pictures the learn to clean and maintain a property as this has been a nightmare and false misrepresentation.
Penny Farthing Cottage was a lovely place to spend our holiday in Whitby. The house is immaculate and very nicely, and recently renovated. We all had a really nice time and loved staying there. The location is excellent too. Highly recommended.

Customer service via the host company were lacking when we had a problem ( not with house ). Parking not that easy but we were awre from description.
GBAbsolutely perfect! The modern decor created a stylish and comfortable atmosphere and the place itself was fantastic. The host was wonderful and provided a super helpful link with all the information I needed. Highly recommended!
One area for improvement would be the sofa, which was unfortunately quite dirty and covered in stains. It didn’t feel inviting to sit and relax, so refreshing or replacing it would really enhance the comfort of the accommodation
GBIt was a lovely cottage, very clean, with everything we needed. It was within walking distance of the main street in Whitby, and also in a very nice area 'behind the scenes' which appeared to have some lovely bistro restaurants. I can highly recommend this cottage and would definitely stay there again.
