Stable Cottage - Sleeps 6, near Lulworth Cove

The cottage is located in a tranquil little village with a great pub (Sailor's Return) and within easy reach of lovely places to visit. We visited Lulworth Cove, Weymouth, Dorchester and Swanage. We also found a great walk to take our dogs, starting at the car park on the east side of the village. To top all of this Philip is a lovely, friendly and informative host and we thank him for such an enjoyable stay.

It is a beautiful small cottage with loads of charm. Lovely furnished. Great location, fantastic pub within walking distance. A wonderful log burner with plenty of logs. I would totally (I will) recommend this cottage.

I didn’t realise the only bathroom was downstairs ( in need of an update). The twin bed pushed together needs a thick Superking mattress topper to join the beds. Great hot tub, 41 oC first night but only 36 oC the second night for some reason.

Stable Cottage is situated in a small and beautiful, serene Dorset village (Chaldon) just a few miles from Lulworth. It was an exceptionally peaceful location. The host was magnificent, and it was very evident that he took pride in the property and was well versed in catering for a young family. Nothing was too much trouble! We arrived to find little touches awaiting us such as locally produced cake and fresh milk, combined with plenty of tea and coffee. The cottage was filled with many interesting items, which gave insight to the extensive travel the host had undertaken over the years- it gave a personal feel to the cottage. Ample DVDs and books had been available for use, but we made use of the large dining area that loaned itself to catering for the many family board games we played during our stay. The front room, with its open fire place, is an exceptional feature of the cottage, which provided much warmth and coziness when storm Kieran moved in on Dorset. The cottage’s kitchen is generous in size, which allowed much cooking to be done during the stay. We also visited the Sailors Return (in walking distance approx 10 mins) and the Ship Inn (a 10 minute drive towards Winfrith -Hall and Woodhouse family run pub). Both venues offered brilliant menus, but for a young family, the Ship Inn was definitely more versatile in terms of anmenu for younger palates. We loved our stay, and we’re especially grateful to Philip (the host) who really did ensure that everything was taken care of as soon as we set foot on the property. It’s been a lovely and relaxing few days at Stable Cottage… Thank you Philip.

It’s simplicity worked for us. It was just honest and an experience to live and imagine how it would have been years ago.

Nothing really, as a property of this age and style is predictable in terms of being quite dark, low ceilings and steep stairs.
