続異人館 ZOKU IJINKAN Guest House

Enjoyed staying at this guesthouse, it was convenient to walk around this part of town with lots of pottery shops. The person who met me at the check-in was really friendly too, she lent me her personal bicycle so that I could cycle further away the next day. The building is beautiful - it’s a historical building - an old worker’s lodging for a ceramics artist. The owner is also a ceramics artist but I didn’t get to meet him, saw the works instead at the gallery. One helpful point to note is that the area is very quiet at night after the shops are closed, but still very safe to walk around, I would recommend that you ask the guesthouse to help book the nearest Yakitori restaurant for dinner as not many places are open at night. There is also an Italian restaurant further down from the Yakitori that’s good too. Thanks for the stay!

Experience Japanese house lifestyle

Artist Host is a very nice guy introducing us abt the history of the traditional Japanese house n everything that we need to know staying there and surroundings too. It's a really great experience to sleep on an authentic Japanese tatami mat and the host has organised a very comfy mattress, doona covers n pillows. We slept so well n felt refreshed the next morning. And the room opens up to see a tiny tranquil garden. Almost everything including the kitchen n showers has very thoughtful offers. The whole house is decorated with cute ceramics including the Artist's own work too. Very pleasant experience and we'd definitely recommend anyone who wants to experience real authentic Japanese stay in an original country town. We also visited the host's own art gallery Shin Gallery right next door. He's a very versatile artist who has marvellous art paintings, printworks, t-shirt prints, ceramics combining traditional skills with modern ideas. We feel privileged to stay in his place and explore the lovely little old town which has so many special ceramics shops.

It's nothing we don't like abt this place we stay. Someone may not like it's a very quiet old town with nothing much to walk abt at night but that exactly what we like abt it.

Wonderful location, comfortable, pretty accommodations equipped with everything we needed; welcoming and interesting host; good food nearby; absolutely lovely stay.
