Stay at No 4 York Centre

Beautifully appointed accommodation with lots of character. It really was decorated to a high standard. Every detail was thought of to create a welcoming and wonderful stay. We really enjoyed sitting out in the small courtyard having a drink before going out to dinner. The fairy lights created a lovely ambience too. It was in a really good location to walk around York centre.

Unfortunately the ongoing problem with the drains made the property smell in every room. The toilet which used to get blocked has now been removed (and we were communicated very nicely and thoughtfully about this). However unfortunately we could smell a sewage type smell all the time. It’s such a shame as the property is so beautifully decorated and each room is really lovely. The plug in the bathroom didn’t work properly so the sink couldn’t be filled up with water. Other than that we really did love the accommodation . Just a shame about the smell.

If you read previous reviews you will see there has been an ongoing issue with the downstairs toilet. It was still ongoing when we were there. The situation was clearly explained to us before our trip so we knew what to expect. The house was a bit smelly as a result of the work being done to the toilet and the outside drains being dug up. Once the door was opened the smell did go . If it was cold and rainy you couldn't do this so would have to put up with the musty smell. Saying that, we had a fantastic welcome pack to help compensate. The house is really nice, spacious and well furnished. The top stairs are very steep so no good for those with mobility issues but there are 2 bedrooms on the first floor . Don't expect a view because there isn't one in this area of York but it's well situated. You can walk to the centre and there are loads of bars and eateries around Fossgate. It was very comfortable for 6 of us and we would stay here again once the work was complete.

It really is a lovely well equipped property. Would 100% stay there again.

The house was lovely. The kitchen was adequately outfitted. We appreciated the iron and ironing board in the bedroom.

Garbage filling the bin on the deck so another large bag couldn’t fit in. And then we added our bag to the one on the deck. The combo washer/dryer took a long time for cycles. We couldn’t use just the dryer function — pushing the button did nothing. No User Manual. Placemats for the dining table would be helpful.

The offer to refund our parking fee was a grand gesture but we chose not to do so as the stay was everything we wanted/needed and more we felt it wasn’t needed. Call it a tip 🥰. Down side downstairs toilet can be a bit shit pun intended 💩
