那智の里 Accommodation along the Kumano Kodo trail

This little apartment is a 10 min bus ride down the valley from Kumano Nachi Taisha at the end of the Kodo hike. Very basic, but a clean easy place to put your head down at the end of the day. The bus stop is right around the corner. Easy access down to Kii Katsuura the next day. There’s no shop nearby so come prepared (the owner does leave some emergency two minute noodles 😊).

Location is nice that it is halfway to Kumano. But there are no inns or grocery stores nearby. The room is clean and spacious. There are nice touches like candy in the fridge. But the shower is downstairs in the converted garage. It is not a villa.

It has been very frustrating to communicate with the host and to check in. Messages on booking are not answered within time or in response to the question. Instead, there are continuous automated messages that are sent counting down the days to check in. Then the whole checkin/ key process is very complicated and frustrating. Some online pre check in process is expected. After that there was a series of messages with a door code number. When we reached the place though we could not open the door with this code! We called the host and could not communicate due to language issues. So we texted on booking. The host first said it was the wrong date! This was frustrating to hear specially after receiving so many countdown messages. Then they came over. Turned out there was another checkin process that had to be done on their tablet which gave yet another code! And that one was the one to use on the door. They flatly did not acknowledge the confusing messages they sent on booking.com, saying it was not from them.

Very good place to stay on the Kumano Kodo trail. Close to the bus stop to Nachi Taisha and Kii Katsura. Check-in is online. Doesn't take long. The place has everything you need for a good stay. Very nice atmosphere in Japanese style.

Thanks to the owner or staff. They was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. Even though I think I asked the same question many times but the staff answer my question patiently. When I asked about how I storage my backpack before I start the Kumano Kodo trail, they also help me to solve it. The room is big with Japanese tatami and the big bed room. I love the kitchen also, I can experience the Japan local taste. The house area also very nice. I love it. If I do another Kumano kodo trail again I will stay in this place again.

Die Wohnung wäre auch sehr gut für eine Familie geeignet. Es gab alle Einrichtungen, die man sich nach einem langen Wandertag wünschen würde. Es ist ruhig im Haus und die Bushaltestelle, bzw. der Kumano Kodo Pilgerweg nicht weit entfernt.

Die Eincheckmethode mittels Tablet und Smartphone hat mir nicht zugesagt. Ich war gestresst bis ich den Türcode endlich hatte. Dieses Verfahren war mir zu kompliziert, und ohnehin bin ich kein Freund diese unpersönlichen Wohnungsübergabe.

A great place to stay after doing the Kodo walk! It was very nice to have a nice clean open space to myself. I appreciated the note and snacks left by the host. I was very tired after getting in, so instead of going into town, I bought some of the noodles the host had left there if you wanted. The location is also great as it's between Nachi waterfall and town.
