The Captain's Retreat, Quiet 1 Bed Dog Friendly

We liked everything about the ‘Captain’s Retreat’ We appreciated the coffee and biscuits left out on our arrival . The bed was really comfortable, the sofa was comfortable, the shower was good, the whole place was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well equipped for a short stay. The dog bowls and place mat was handy. It was really quiet. (I don’t think our dog barked once in the 4 days). It was a short walk to the village pub (The Crown) - we went there for dinner on all four nights! There are plenty of public footpaths to walk the dog. There was no light pollution - so great for star gazing. Perfect location for exploring West Dorset. We would definitely book again. We did see one review about the bright lights. We just used the bedside lamps for more ambient lighting.

There is a hob, fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave in the kitchen which was absolutely perfect for a short break. For a longer stay away from home we would require an oven and freezer.

The property was in a stunning location with beautiful views. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The shower was huge and there was a lovely little kitchen. The property was in a quiet location with plenty of parking outside. We felt extremely relaxed and it was a bonus that we were able to take our dogs.

There was nothing to dislike

Location was fab ... it was self catering (so breakfast was fab too!) Good dog walking. Lovely quiet spot and great views across the countryside. Handy for beaches (though mainly shingle so hard work to walk on!) and some fantastic views inland and coastal.

Internet connection wasn't overly good when we wanted to search for local info etc. in the evenings.

Perfect for a few days away with our dog. Bed and sofa were really comfortable and the shower was great. Extremely clean with hob and combi microwave for cooking. There are walks on the doorstep and beaches a few minutes drive away. Local pub was friendly with good food. Kevin, the host, was friendly and answered all our queries straight away. Really appreciated the milk and biscuits, with essentials like tea, coffee, washing up liquid provided. No local shop in the village but other shops and supermarkets not far away.

Peaceful location with nice walks for your dog and nice local pub in village

Could do with a small freezer section in the fridge for icepacks for coolboxs for days out, Maybe an actifryer so you can cook more at the apartment. Also be nice to have a few games like cards, domino's etc

The accommodation is situated in a very quiet location in a pretty village. The accommodation was immaculately clean. It has a roomy bathroom with great shower & handy kitchen. The bed & sofa are very comfortable. The WiFi works well. Tea & coffee are available plus Kevin had kindly left us some milk & biscuits. The Crown Inn pub is a 5 minute walk from the property & serves good food in a traditional atmosphere. The beach is about 20 minutes walk away. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would highly recommended.

Nothing.. we couldn’t fault it. The property is perfect for a short stay.
