Arsulana Eco Lodge & Spa

Beautiful space, was fantastic amongst the trees and such lovely rooms and dining area. We really enjoyed our stay. The food was very good at the restaurant.

It needs a reception desk of some sort. And a little but more signage. A map of the property would be useful, especially if you want to go down to the river or do a bird watching walk. The staff were not very informative but all were very friendly and accommodating.

Hotel grounds were nice, staff friendly and food was good.

The hotel was full so unfortunately we ended up with a room that was between the reception and restaurant. Strange place to put a room. No view and quite noisy. That being said, restaurant cleared out by 10pm

We only stayed one night at Arsulana Eco Lodge, but it was absolutely amazing! The jungle surroundings are breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere is unforgettable. The service was outstanding—everyone was so welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed delicious meals and had the most relaxing time swimming in the beautiful rock pools. We wish we could have stayed longer and would highly recommend this unique and stunning place to anyone visiting Sri Lanka!

The only suggestion we’d make is to provide a plug adapter for the hairdryer that was in the bathroom, as it didn’t fit the socket.

Arsulana Eco Lodge is located in the jungle close to the town Ginigathena. The lodge is beautifully built, the staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive. It is the perfect place to rest and unwind for a couple of days, being surrounded by nature and its sounds.

Such a peaceful and luxurious hidden gem. The staff were so lovely, attentive and helpful. The location was slightly hard to get to but was amazing once there, very peaceful and surrounded by nature. We used the Sauna and pool which were both a great addition.

We were told it would be easier if we had the buffet dinner so we did on night 1 and were a bit disappointed as it was mainly western food and not as high quality as the breakfast. The second night we asked if we could forego the buffet and chose Sri Lankan dishes off the menu and it was so much better and one of our favourite meals of the trip.

The setting - lush and verdant. The 2 bed villa with terrace was great. The staff were nice people.

The cost was exorbitant; I’m still trying to make sense of our bill. The staff were very friendly and nice people but their level of English was extremely limited and misunderstandings happened often. The speed at which food orders arrived, or even simply requesting water for our table, was astonishingly slow. The quality of food was very basic and disappointing. We had one delicious nasi goreng, but aside from that were disappointed with all meals, especially the buffet, which was was a tragedy of tepid overcooked choices, not one of which were remotely deserving of the price. The management team (online) were helpful, but there was a gap between what they said and what actually happened on site. There is no actual reception at the lodge, and no particular person to whom one might address queries or requests - just the restaurant sfaff, who - as I said - spoke little English. We weren’t told about the social space with a pool table, which would have been good to know about during our stay.

The only positive thing I can say is that the surrounding nature is beautiful.

We stayed at Arsulana Eco Lodge for two nights, and it was by far the worst accommodation experience we’ve ever had. Here’s why: 1. Room Issues: • We booked a double bed room with a bath but were placed in a room with two beds and no bath. • There was no working Wi-Fi, despite being able to connect. • No hot water was available, even though it was promised in the booking. 2. Abysmal Communication: • Prior to our arrival, I messaged through Booking.com about arrival time, food, and spa options—no response. • Finally found a WhatsApp number, but the replies didn’t answer questions and directed us to five other contacts who were equally unresponsive. • Upon arrival, nobody was present to guide us or even seemed to know we were coming. 3. Unhelpful Check-In and Service: • We parked at the bottom in the dark, carried our bags uphill to reception, only to be told to take them back down 800m on a steep hill. • Staff didn’t seem to know how long we were booked for. • Throughout our stay, we had to repeatedly go into the kitchen to look for assistance. 4. Poor Room Amenities: • No toilet paper provided, no water refilled, and no cleaning service. • We had to walk 800m uphill to get basic necessities like toilet paper and water. 5. Massage Disaster: • Booked a couples massage and rearranged our plans to fit it in. • Nobody guided us to the spa/pool; we eventually found it ourselves, only to learn there was only one therapist. One of us would have had to wait 1.5 hours for the other to finish. • After expressing frustration, the manager, Ashley, appeared but offered excuses instead of solutions. 6. Dangerous Access Road: • The road leading to the lodge is almost impassable without a 4x4. We arrived in a TukTuk and genuinely feared for our safety. 7. Terrible Food: • The buffet costs 4500 SLR and was ice cold. • Food was bland, and we had to repeatedly request salt and pepper.

It is very much interior, there's quite a long driver up mountains where the road is not that great.
