Characterful Cottage near the Sea, Beach, Pier & Shops

Loads of character. Wished we were staying longer. Thoughtfully designed.

Property is let down by its location but host cannot do anything about that. The area is quite rundown with quite a few props empty.

The cottage is characterful and has some interesting features. If the issues can be sorted then I would recommend it but not otherwise.

Despite being out of season, streets were full of local vehicles with parking permits so no free parking avaliable unless you are fortunate to find a spot at a distance from the property after driving around the one way streets in search of one. Host also needs to update the rates for metered parking. Worst of all, host needs to revise his method of laundering. There were old blood stains on the duvet cover which was also very crumpled like all the linen and the towels were very hard. On arrival the property was full of humidity throughout and smelled of wet clothes. We opened all the windows that could open to air it out. The source was a heated airer with the previous guest's linen hung so no air could get around the linen to dry and It was still damp at the end of our stay. It stood in the dining area under the spiral staircase so both upstairs and down were affected. This was all totally unacceptable. These two issues are why I have scored an otherwise pleasant property so low. Also the passageway to the property is long and dark at night with no lighting. I'm not afraid of the dark but one needs a torch for safety.

Great location, literally 2 minutes from the pier. The shower was great too. I spoke to the host about any issues we had and he was great.

Keys were easily accessible and the check in process was really smooth.

The location was terrible to begin with. Although not directly the property’s fault, the surroundings are infested with cats, and the smell of urine is so strong that it seeps into the house itself. The entrance hallway is also neglected, with overgrown weeds, rubbish on the floor, and an overall unsafe feel — including a car parked right outside the house openly selling drugs. Inside, the property does have a bit of character, but it feels extremely dated and poorly maintained. The doors are made of rough wooden boards with awkward locks, the narrow spiral staircase is uncomfortable to use, and the furniture (especially the sofas) is very old and worn out. The bathroom was the worst part. The sink is tiny and impractical, the shower cubicle is oversized but filthy, with dark mould all around, and the shower head itself is coated in limescale. Overall, it felt unhygienic and unpleasant to use. The smell of cat urine follows you everywhere, making it impossible to feel comfortable in the house. Clearly, there is little to no effort from the owner to maintain or improve the property, which is disappointing.

Well equipped kitchen, nice clean beds, good Wi-Fi and TV. Very near to shops and beach.

The house was a bit strange and smelt musty. Sofas were old and well used. The area was a bit rough.
