Sea Palace Hotel - near Gateway of India

The location of this Hotel is perfect if you want a sea or harbour view and is a few minutes walk from the gateway to india. Location has a popular roof top bar, which is relatively clean and has a functional portaloo type toilets for guests. It looks across the bay and is adjacent to The Gateway to india. The room we had, had been modernised but like many things in india, it's not quite finished off. Some staff were very helpful. Some not so.

We specifically wanted the sea view (clue is in the hotel name) The harbour would have been wonderful to have gazed upon every morning and evening. After receiving confirmation that we would definitely have a sea view, we booked months in advance. On arrival we received a side room which was of a good standard, but a brick wall was the view. You also couldn't block out the early morning sunlight at 5.30 because there were no blinds on the glass doors. Nothing major; but an early morning rise every day. Immediately asked why we had not been given the premium priced Seaview; we were told the sea view rooms only had two small beds and the rooms were smaller. They were still advertising seaviews with double beds for the nights we were there. I again asked for a Seaview... WE would be given one the next day..... The following day, there was not a Seaview room available. But we could stay in the supposedly upgraded room we were in. After i first requested that cleaning staff could spray to control The cockroach 🪳 infestation. (It's india, so we have to expect expect it) To help prevent this could the bins be emptied. (One is for toilet tissue waste and was patently attracting cockroaches). The bins were not emptied and on returning after a day out, The bath towel was neatly sculpted into a Swan on the bed....but the bins were full and the cockroaches had decided to multiply... Another evening stomping on insects clearing up and flushing them down the toilet. Do the basics right first before folding towels. Holes in the sheets. Breakfast was basic and sunny side up eggs were terribly undercooked where the albuman was not cooked at all. In essence Two raw eggs. I was informed we had been given an upgraded room instead of the sea view. The sad thing is, that the front Seaview rooms are currently being renovated. The windows have sheets and newspaper in front of the windows. Why didn't they just tell.me that to start with?

The location in Colaba and close to The Gateway to India is great. The rooms are basic, and are very expensive for what you get. The room and what we saw of the rest of the hotel were clean

The staff were indifferent and didn't seem bothered if you were there or not.

The breakfast on plastic plates, juice in package, except for eggs no European/ Western choice. VERY disappointing. The waiters speak or understands NO English

Great location and generous room, good breakfast and great views from the rooftop bar/restaurant

A few staff were less than cordial, but the others made up for it

Location was good, Colaba, near market. View from our sea facing room was good, lovely sunrise and lots to watch. Roof top bar was great good selection of alcohol and again great view. Our room 404 had not been upgraded but was clean, and spacious. Breakfast had enough choice, and with only 2 men working there, they were very organized. They cleared tables and produced cooked egg dishes on request.

Check in staff serious, and had to continually ask for late check out, did eventually pay half day to keep room until 6 pm.
