The Fleur de Lys

Lovely room, nice location and friendly staff.

Toilet and shower didn’t work very well, and the room needed a bit of a clean to get rid of spiders & cobwebs. Nice location but taxis are expensive

The Fleur de Lys is a very charming inn in a small village. We stayed there one night on your tour through England during which we have stayed at a different hotel, inn or B&B every night and we have learned that when booking these kind of accommodations from afar, it is a kind of hit and miss. This little charming place was definitely a HIT. The rooms were nice and modern, with a little bit of English country side charm. The bed was super comfortable (and believe me that was a rarity during our trip). Not to forget that the hospitality of the young man hosting us was top notch. All in all totally worth it’s price.

The two Matthews (Matthew the beard and Matthew the glasses) were more than just barman/manager and Restaurant manager - they were hosts. Strugling with a heavy suitcase, Matthew tb insisted on carrying it upstairs for us. We felt very welcome and the pub atmosphere was lovely. A perfect location for a short getaway - comfortable bed, lovely meal, ambience and a delightful village to end the evening with a walk.

Nothing. There was no on-site parking but we were warned about that - and it wasn't a problem

A small one but would be even more brilliant if they served some sort of breakfast

I booked a two night stay. On arrival, our first impression was that the place was run down and unkempt. We were told that breakfast was unavailable on site, despite it being advertised. We were also told that no staff would be on site overnight once the bar closed. The meal of the evening on offer was pizza, which we didn’t want, so we ate at the next hotel up the road. There were dead leaves in the doorways, front and rear and there was various rubbish on the ground in the side entryway. On being shown to our room we were told that the door lock was faulty. Later that day we were locked outside of the room for some minutes because the key turned and turned without engaging. The following morning I mentioned this and to their credit the lock barrel was replaced that day. The double room was small but adequate. The bathroom was very small. There was no overhead shower, only an old fashioned, lever operated shower attachment on the stand-alone bath tap mixer. Unfortunately the mixer was faulty and sticky (tap washers worn out) and we so had the choice of either scalding hot water or cold. We were staying to attend a formal dinner elsewhere and were unable to shower. My wife had to wash her hair in cold water whilst leaning over the bath and was far from impressed. We left this morning at 09:30. I wanted to hand the room key back but the door to the bar was locked and there appeared to be no staff on site so I left the key in the room. As we left, a fresh food delivery was lying uncovered on the ground in the side entrance, was yesterday’s delivery. I’m sure that no one will be surprised to hear that we won’t be going back.

Don’t provide breakfast, but do give you recommendation for a neighbourhood cafe within a farm. Room was decorated really nicely and the team were super helpful

Lovely rooms, a coffee machine & a very comfortable bed.

Didn’t offer breakfast which was a shame.
