The Elgin Norkhill - Heritage Resort and Spa

Elgin Nor-Khill has a great location, within walking distance of MG Marg and Lall Bazaar. The hotel has an old world, vintage feel.

The property is definitely dated. Wall paint is chipping off in a few places, water leaking on the bathroom floors, floor tiling chipped in places. The facilitiea are the kind that would considered luxurious in the 1970s, and aren’t exactly practical today. They have some magazines in strategic places; random magazine issues from several years ago. An upscale property like this should be able to place recent publications as opposed to an India Today weekly issue from 2022. I had mixed experience with the staff. The front desk folks were very professional and helpful. So were the housekeepers. However, the porters and room service staff were constantly looking for tips for every single thing. Order some milk to the room? The delivery person hangs around asking multiple times if you got what you wanted, and “conveniently” reminds you that he is off tomorrow, “so if there was nothing else…”. The porters who helped with the luggage were even worse. I absolutely do not mind tipping hotel staff and routinely do so. However, it is off putting when every single porter / room service person drops obvious hints and acts super worried that you might forget to tip them.

Ein Hotel für Geschichtsliebhaber, ruhig gelegen, mit einem schönen Garten. Hervorragender Service, sehr gutes Essen, schönes Frühstücksbuffet. Das Haus ist ein Stück Geschichte, so ist es auch durchweg eingerichtet, das muss man mögen. Wir haben zwei Nächte hier verbracht und waren sehr zufrieden.

Es gab nichts zu beanstanden.

Amazing stay during my Gangtok trip! The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. The bed was cozy, the bathroom was clean with reliable hot water, and all amenities were well-maintained. The staff were polite and helpful throughout. The only small downside was that the room didn’t have a smart TV. Overall, a fantastic experience, I’d definitely stay here again.

Honestly, nothing! They truly go above and beyond to make your stay amazing.

The staff were the highlight of the property. We spent a week there and they were generous in every request we made. The hotel is very pretty with lovely gardens and “Hilton” the hotel dog is great with guests and children. The food was good, and the rooms were clean.

The hotel is tired and is not modern at all. There are stains on the floor in rooms and it needs a good lick of paint. We spent a lot of time in the Denzong regency (for a friend’s wedding) and this was much nicer. The photos online do not show the football stadium immediately below the hotel, with floodlights ruining the view over the valley, and cries of football players punctuating the silence of the garden. Our friends staying there had to endure noisy neighbours (the walls were thin) and then an electrical fire in their bathroom. There are no modern amenities, such as pool or gym.
