The Rhu Inn

Small & very cosy a great bar area with comfy chairs I had double overlooking the bay in short a great stay and will return when I am working in the area again

No food but very they did say before we bookedthat the kitchen is being renovated . A bit noisy as it is right beside a road.

Staff were pleasant on arrival and showed me the room. the bedroom and bathroom were a decent size and clean. The bed, pillows and mattress were all very comfortable. The view across the water is wonderful.

Unfortunately my room was at the front of the building where there is a busy road so there is a lot of traffic noise, rumblings and vibration especially when the larger lorries drove past. The windows are single glazed and don’t close tightly due to their age so that doesn’t help either with the acoustics. You’d think that internal secondary glazing would help and wouldn’t affect a listed property. In the hotter weather not having the windows open for the noise would be hot and stuffy as the sun is on that side of the building all day. The blinds also lets a lot of light in at the sides and there is a very bright floodlight street light that shines directly onto the building so it’s like daylight all night long. I had to buy earplugs and an eye mask after the first night otherwise I wouldn’t have slept much at all and probably would have had to have left. One other disappointment was the pub wasn’t serving food at all, so no breakfast or dinner available. There is a Brae store nearby that sells bacon and egg butties and average coffee but you wouldn’t want that every morning. I did however find some great cafes in Helensburgh which saved the day. A small fridge for a few items, milk and drinks etc would have been useful. The price that was charged wasn’t proportional to take into account the issues there so on hindsight I would have been better looking elsewhere. I think if some improvements were made to alleviate some of the issues above then it would make a stay far more pleasurable.

The room was clean and very comfortable, with a good view of the sea, which was just across the road from the hotel. The staff were pleasant and very apologetic about the catering.

We were only informed that "Over the next few months, we do not have a breakfast option available". This information came by an email which we received on the morning of our arrival, leaving it too late to cancel if we had so desired. Staff advised us that guests usually went to a nearby establishment and ate there or returned to the hotel to dine in and that this had been the situation for some months. There were several choices missing from the menu and we were informed that this was because stocks had been run down as the chef was leaving on the Monday following.

Good size, comfortable room.

Absolutely superb food. Perfectly plated, excellent quality and served with charm. Fantastic front of house and management team. Lovely to find out what had driven them to strive to deliver such good food

The evening meal was delicious and good value

This was the noisiest place I have ever stayed in. The room was pokey. I would say it was a single room with a double bed. You could not have the window open with the blind down so it was either or.
