"Unique property in a great location for exploring Calderdale."

9.0

Lovely quirky property, in a great location for walking and exploring the area. A contemporary and well finished property unusual and unique in many ways, ideal for a short stay. Kelly was very helpful in providing information beforehand and during our stay.

With 4 adults it is a very compact property which can take a little getting used to, especially the steep stairs. We would have preferred to have had more natural ventilation in the rooms as there were only two small windows that opened (apart from the doors). Worktop space is a little compromised, meaning the microwave and toaster are hidden away and difficult to access. Also we couldn't find a dryer as listed. However, everthing else is there and just what you need for a short stay.

"Incredible location let down by damp smell and dirty bathroom."

5.0

The property has amazing views and is situated in a lovely area. The locals we met were friendly and the walks and scenery are absolutely stunning. The decor of the place is nice. Hearing the water from the house is very relaxing. A nice welcome basket of goodies was also there on arrival.

The place smells strongly of damp in the middle and ground floor. The cleanliness is lacking. The kitchen and surfaces were clean but the bathroom had grime around the bottom of the door frame and black mould in the grout. The rainfall shower head was covered in build up and mould. The curtain to the bathroom was covered in stains and mould. The plug for the sink was covered in a mouldy slime. I brought this to the attention of the hostess who implied I was overreacting because my parents struggled with the stairs. We were offered a £75 refund but I don't like the implication that we are overreacting. For an expensive luxury retreat, cleanliness should be top priority. It was also said that the place couldn't be damp because of the hot weather which simply isn't true. There are only two small windows in the place. You can not fail to smell the damp in the ground level. The bedding felt damp. I feel it should be highlighted more in the listing that the stairs to the middle level to the bedrooms are very steep so anyone with mobility issues will really struggle. We read about thr paddle stairs and that wasnt a problem as we didnt need to go to the ground floor. The patio outside the main bedroom had a lot of debris and would benefit from a clean. The stairs outside from the main bedroom to the path were overgrown with weeds. The shower was backed up so we were standing in water while showering and when we plunged it with the plug, clumps of hair and dirt came up. There was an awful sewage smell from the bathroom sink first thing in the morning when the tap was turned on. The tv had been wiped with a greasy cloth so when the sun came round it was hard to see the tv. I've added pictures purely so the hostess can see that I'm not making it up.

"We had a great stay!"

9.0

The location and the views overlooking the woods are stunning. The house is beautifully built to let nature in so it feels like living in a luxurious tree house 😊

We loved the architecture but it wouldn’t be suitable for older people with mobility issues—the stairs are narrow and it’d be difficult to get into the Japanese bath

Great location for walks and scenery

The microwave on bottom shelf. Perhaps move it up under the cutlery drawer. No safety gate at ladder stair to lower floor. Dangerous for our aging dog. Had to use car rear parcel shelf to block it off. Perhaps install sliding gate, which should be easy and inexpensive.
