"Fantastic house and chapels and such beautiful gardens."

7.0

This is an amazing unique property and it's a privilege to stay in such an incredible building. There really is nowhere else like it I'm sure

We had no hot water in our shower for our entire stay. We reported to the reception desk a number of times but nothing was done. The staff didn't seem to know who to report it to or what to do. I think a lot of people volunteer to work there, and are therefore not as knowledgeable as they might be.

"The location and buildings had the wow factor but the bedroom didn’t"

8.0

The location , grounds and buildings are stunning . Breakfast staff were superb and so helpful. Volunteers all very friendly and enthusiastic . The New Board Inn was excellent

We expected a better room for the £97 . It was very small , no water pressure in the shower and the mattress was very squashy / soft .

Our second stay at Ushaw was even better than the first! All staff, as last time, were extremely helpful and friendly. Our rooms were lovely and our beds very comfortable. The chapels and grounds were beautiful; we enjoyed seeing the wonderful array of flowers and wildlife, especially the rabbits! The continental breakfast was very good. Both nights were very quiet and restful. An amazing B and B!

A fan in the room would have been appreciated.

"Beautiful grounds and friendly staff"

4.0

Beautiful grounds and impressive historic building. The hotel had the wow factor from the exterior and the chapel inside was beautiful

Room was very basic and not in keeping with the grandeur of the building. Bathroom was super basic, with the shower floor and bathroom floor as one with evidence of peeling sash windows from previous condensation as there is no extractor fan. Also I had to take a cold shower and couldn’t shave as the hot water didn’t work. Thankfully it was the hottest day of the year so the cold shower wasn’t bad.

Unique building in stunning setting, loved being able to roam around the extensive building. Good breakfast with range of choices on day two, although more limited on day one due to a delivery failure.

Because it is a very old building the water pressure on in my room on the top floor was very low... took a long time to wash my hair under the struggling shower!

"A pleasant place to stay but visitor reception could improve"

6.0

The building and grounds were impressive, especially the chapel. We would have liked to walk around the grounds but ran out of time. It wasn't too far from Durham and was ideal as a base for visiting the city. The breakfast was simple and serve yourself.

It was a very long walk from the carpark to the building and then the room. When we arrived, the door was open but we spent a long time finding the reception, which wasn't manned or properly signposted. In the end I had to phone Ushaw so that they could come and attend to us. The person who came was very friendly and welcoming but it was probably 20 minutes from entering the building until we spoke to someone in person. Although it was a double room there was only one chair in the room.

"Unique stay"

7.0

Very beautiful location, unique stay. The staff were very welcoming and nice. Especially the women who does the flower arrangements, and the people in de breakfast area. Good breakfast too. Very convenient. Also loved the chapel and the second hand book shop, definitely worth visiting!

The rooms were a bit outdated, shower pressure wasn’t fantastic. The mattress has springs in it, and the walls are paper thin. You can hear the people next to you talk, cough, and use the bathroom. The lamp on the nightstand had a lot of dust on it.
