"It was somewhere to stay not far from Sniperley Park & Ride into Durham"

6.0

Rhododendrons were in full bloom. Chapels were interesting An exhibition of wedding dresses spanning 100+ years were on display.

Water temperature in walk in shower difficult to control - drain was not taking the water away quickly enough leading to wet floor. No one at reception to report this to when we left.

"Exceptional stay at a beautiful house"

10.0

Exceptional stay in a beautiful historic house. The room was lovely and very clean. The grounds were beautiful and a tour of the house and incredible chapels included in your stay. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was included and offered a broad range of options. Bus route into Durham from the gate was useful.

Maybe better blackout options as the room was very light in the morning. Signage for B&B guests could be improved or maybe just read the joining texts carefully! 😉

Staying in a historic building and having access to areas outside of normal visiting hours. Spending quiet time alone in St Cuthbert’s Chapel.

"An unexpected delight"

9.0

Whilst a continental breakfast, it was tasty and enjoyable. The second hand bookshop (open 24hrs!) was a delight, as was the piano recital for guests one evening The chapels were serene, and to be able to go in early and sit and just be at peace for a few moments in such a beautiful space... divine, literally. And the staff were astounding.

The lighting from the parking lot at night made for odd glares that, added to not being sure which entrance to go to (and not realizing how the bell system worked) made my arrival very difficult, especially on a windy, rainy night. I also ended up with a disability room with twin beds, which was fine for my original plans, but... I feel very bad for the person needing such accommodation sleeping on that mattress as it was low and not easily accessible
