L'Auberge Provencale Inn & Restaurant

We honeymooned here in 2021 over Covid. Since then we have gone back every year. The view of the mountains in the fall is breathtaking. The afternoon cookies they offer in the sitting room are delectable. The breakfast is a breakfast of kings and every enhancement makes the trip that much more special. Most recently we stayed here in April 2024 staying for the first time in spring to celebrate that we had been together for a total of 8 years and the staff was incredible. We normally stay in the Van Gogh room however we stayed in the Mistral this time to save some money to be able to enjoy the fine dining tasting menu. Oh my goodness the garden is amazing in the spring! They had wine and treats in our room waiting for us and the wait staff had special touches for us at dinner for our anniversary. I recommend this place to every person looking for a romantic stay or even just a beautiful place to take a break from the city. We look forward to going again next year and the year after that and the year after that. Rooms: We love that each room has unique touches making it feel more homey. Every one we have stayed in has a comfortable sitting area and while it's a small detail the hand painted tiles are gorgeous and add a special touch. Nearby activities: We love to go apple picking nearby or head to nearby old town Winchester for a little small business shopping and antiques.

A return visit to celebrate our wedding anniversary did not disappoint! Changes have occurred, but it's still the same lovely inn with exceptional food, friendly service, and a lovely room filled with thoughtful touches. The charm starts on arrival with freshly baked cookies, bread, and fruit on offer in the main- house sitting room. There's a modest shop here (a few shelves filled with interesting items) and you can take a moment here to enjoy your snack and complete your breakfast order. Be warned! It's hard to choose from among the tasty offerings! You can leave the order on an entrance table or give it to a staff member. Staff are kind of magical, appearing just when you'd like a coffee refill or a top off on your wine glass. We chose the Prie Fixe menu and were delighted with each course. Happy to report that the fixed price menu is no longer the only option for dining. For those wanting a more casual meal, there's a bistro menu with pizza and burgers and other light fare. Special requests are not a problem. You can contact in advance for items that may require more time, but a change from gin to your favorite vodka is not a problem--both the wine list and the bar list are extensive. Breakfast is so good. No matter what you order, you'll be happy to see and eat! warm, house-made croissants and muffins tucked into a basket. They ask that you give them an estimated time for when you want breakfast, and they take it from there. At your final (sigh) breakfast, they'll deliver your bill for a final look and then you are on your way. No need to visit the office (tucked away in a separate small building in the back of the inn). Just return to your room to grab your stuff, leave the key on the nightstand and away you go.

The Auberge Provençale never disappoints. Each time we go there we feel that we are in the south of France, enjoying the food and a warm welcome! And not to mention that the staff is extraordinaire!

Loved everything…except would have appreciated a wall-mounted magnifying mirror in the bathroom.

There are several areas where improvements could have been made. The quality of the linens and blankets in our villa suite was particularly disappointing. The breakfast options were limited, and additional charges were incurred for fresh orange juice and yogurt with fruit. Additionally, the final bill prominently featured a tip section that was highlighted, which was not appropriate.

The staff and management are great! Our room was very clean. Unfortunately it’s been very hot and the lack of watering on the grounds attributed to the lack of curb appeal. The pool is under renovation so that wasn’t available either. They did inform us prior to booking so this is not a ding. The food was good, but the oysters weren’t as fresh as they should have been. The biggest disappointment was the bed. It was so noisy/creaky with the slightest move. Forget turning over or any romantic gestures! A comfortable bed and a good night’s sleep are important. My husband and I didn’t experience this so I can’t provide a better rating. I was also charged for a chocolate bar which I never saw in the room basket which we did not partake in. Overall, I would recommend, but depending on the bed…you may or may not sleep well and take inventory of the room basket. I didn’t feel that I should have had to.
