New Cormorant Lake Resort & Yala Safari Place

The host and his family were so welcoming, they made this stay so special, it was the best place we stayed during our trip to Sri Lanka. He took us on a tuktuk drive around the lake and we were able to see crocodile, owl, fireflies and bats. He also organised a safari for us and made it so easy. The food and drinks were amazing, the family was so generous and welcoming. We loved it so much I wish we stayed longer!!

New Cormorant Lake was an amazing experience, it was more than just a hotel. Gayan was amazing, helping us organise the safari and taking us on a night trip around the lake and a sunset hike up a nearby rock, the views were amazing and Gayan knew lots of history about the area to tell us. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.

For us the positives out weighed the lack of air con but it is to be noted if you really struggle with heat

Spacious and clean rooms, beautifully located next to a picturesque lake and most importantly - what a kind, helpful and sweet owner! Five stars!

Everything was perfect.

Staff were fantastic - couldn’t have done more to help us out during our stay and make it as good as possible for us. We booked our safari through the hotel which was amazing and very easy! The owner even took us for a tour around Debarawewa Lake to see cormorants and bats!

Highly recommend staying in this resort. The owner was a great person, he gave us the tour around the lake, answered all of our questions and gave us a lift to the grocery shop. The room was simple, but very clean. The food we bought in the resort was delicious!

Great stay here. We stayed for 1 night and booked the Yala safari tour through the hotel which was super easy and we really enjoyed. The owner also offers a free tour in the evenings around the river where we saw crocodiles, bats, and a barn owl too! Bed was comfortable and room was nice. Would recommend!

The location is sublime. Near the lake, close to wildlife and in reasonable distance from the city. But what really makes this accomodation is the level of service the host goes. Very friendly, helpful and caring about nature and your time there. For instance he does a walking tour around the lake to spot owels and crocs, for people that stay longer he also does BBQ and hikes. On top of that you get free welcome drinks and coffee! One of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka.

It is somewhat warm but for the price you pay for us it was no problem.
