Alt Life Luxe - Upper Bhagsu Mcleodganj

The hotel is fitted out to an excellent specification. The staff could not have been more helpful - all of them were fantastic. The food in the restaurant is very good indeed.

The view from the restaurant is great, as is the food,but we were there in March and as soon as the sun goes down the restaurant is very cold. Most people are whilst wearing their coats after 6.30pm - but strangely it didn’t spoil the enjoyment!

The hotel claims to provide services which are not equal to the asking price. It has two active listings on booking.com. One with a score of around 6.4 and a newer one with a higher score. Unfortunately at the time of the booking we did not see this and of course booked the more expensive one. The price just doesn’t match the service. The property lacked heating, which considering the fact that the outside temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius at night was highly unpleasant. Hot water was not available at all times and there were often power cuts to the electricity. We had to remain at the property as there were no other availabilities otherwise we would’ve just canceled the booking. The hotel was considerably more expensive than other properties in the area whilst providing worse service. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

The hotel was spectacular! We booked the hotel for our last night in Bhagsu/Mcleodganj after finishing a three night trek in the mountains. The rooms had all of the amenities that we could ask for and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful during our stay. The hotel is situated on top of the city with amazing views, making dinner on the rooftop during sunset a wonderful experience.

This was our first trip to India. For the second leg of our trip, we wanted to learn about Tibetan Buddhism and Ayurveda, pick up some Himalayan handicrafts, and enjoy the food. We found the Alt Life Luxe, perched high above Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj. We were fine with the short (but not as easily walkable) distance to the hustle and bustle of town because it meant we could retreat to the heights and enjoy the views. We booked through Booking.com, and a few weeks before our stay, we received messages from the hotel stating that our card was declined. I re-input my card info, but it happened again, so I sent a message back to the hotel. Not sure what the issue was - maybe my card did not work internationally…? - but thankfully the hotel held my reservation and we sorted out the payment when we arrived. The drive from the flat agricultural lands of Dharamsala proper up to the heights of the Alt Life Luxe was an eventful trip in itself! We mistakenly had not specified which Alt Life hotel we had reserved to our taxi driver, so he first took us to the Alt Life Dharamkot (a hostel). (The hotel manager had texted me ahead of time with the address and directions, so this added adventure was my fault!) The taxi driver then tried to take a shortcut across the ridge, but we found that the concrete ran out and became a bumpy dirt road. After backing out of there, we returned to McLeod Ganj and drove up the correct mountain side to Upper Bhagsu, but as the roads became very windy with steep hills and sharp drop-offs, our driver dropped us by some stairs that we climbed up the final stretch to reach the Alt Life Luxe. The hotel recently changed ownership and so still currently says in bright bold letters “JR Resort,” adding to our driver’s confusion. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and well managed! The lobby, restaurant, and room all have attractive architecture, furniture and feng shui, lighting, and mountain views.

Excellent and very courteous staff members. Special mention of Miss Pratiksha thakur. She guided us to the hotel very well. Very nice location but the approach road is very tricky and steep. Only seasoned drivers can drive up there. They really need to work on this aspect. Hotel is not temperature controlled so it's almost impossible to venture out of the room in winters. We visited here in January and it was difficult to even come out of the room and go to the hotel's restaurant for dinner.

I must say Alt Life Luxe exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The rooms were not only clean but also maintained a high level of hygiene, providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The food offered at the property was exceptionally good, catering to various tastes. One notable feature was the availability of parking space, which added convenience to our visit. The staff's dedication and prompt service truly made our stay memorable. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor created a warm atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience. I highly recommend this property to anyone planning a visit. The combination of excellent rooms, delicious food, ample parking, and exceptional service make it a top-notch choice for accommodation in the area. I would gladly rate it 10 stars and encourage others to indulge in the same delightful experience.

Alway from the hustle bustle of Mcleodganj, the valley view from the balcony was worth all the travel to reach this place. The room was very nice and clean. Staff was polite and helpful.
