Finca del Sol Eco Lodge

The houses are beautifully handmade by previous owners who seemed very engaged. The location is great. Note that they have dry toilets.

It feels deserted. The first cottage Sol doesn’t have wifi. The reception is 5 min walk to the back of the property which is some tables outside for breakfast.

The lodges are beautifully located and you can see many birds and even monkeys. Miguel was very helpful in organizing all kinds of tours and always available on whatsapp. The Kayaking was great as was the horseriding and the hiking to Maderas.

Upfront, communication was not possible. Neither through booking, nor by email nor by phone.

- good breakfast - staff who prepared the breakfast was very friendly - host was (only) available via WhatsApp and replied to all our questions and inquiries quickly - organised shuttle service from and to the ferry port for $20 - nature around accommodation is beautiful - mosquito net around the bed - bed was comfortable

- room and bathroom were not very clean. Given its location in the middle of nature, it is clear that some insects might find their way into the room. However, the gap under the door is large enough so that anything really can crawl in. At the end of our 3 night stay we had several dead bugs and dead spiders on our floor (we did not kill them). Also in the shower there were a lot of spider webs indicating it has not been cleaned properly for a while. - the accommodation uses an organic toilet, i.e. you don’t flush with water but cover everything with rice husks. While the refill of these husks was done everyday and we very much support the idea of a sustainable toilet, the smell transmits to the room and is not very pleasant. - room is very dark and not very cozy. We tried to spend as little time as possible in the room. - While there are 2 ventilators in the room, one is out of order the other one only has one working level. The nights were, therefore, quite warm and sweaty.

Miguel the property manager was fantastic - he made the stay very comfortable! The property was fully amongst nature and beautiful. You're coming to a jungle island so expect to have insects etc. around.

Great location, super friendly and competent staff, lovely breakfast, v nice garden in front of the hut, amazing view. They helped organize an ATV, transport from the harbour etc

Level of maintenance: lose shelves, exhaust pipe of water heater was disconnected, leaving a big round hole in the bathroom wall, mosquito nets with holes. Dirty floor. We had a scorpion in our hut, the neighbours had snakes. It’s an eco lodge, but you can keep it in good repair which helps manage the animals. The originally cute lighting has been replaced by two naked cold-light bulbs, creating 0 atmosphere.

The cabana has everything you need, including hot water in the shower! You’re in the middle of the jungle, so it’s normal to expect some insects here and there, but it’s all worth it for the experience of staying in such a lovely place, surrounded by the sound of nature and enjoying a bit more of a rural life, which is genuine to the amazing island of Ometepe. Miguel was absolutely wonderful, super kind and welcoming and gave me very useful tips!

Incredible room with a view of the volcano. Loved the hammock and rocking chair. Nice green surroundings. Simple and tasty breakfast. Miguel was very responsive on WhatsApp and helpful with booking tours/transfers.

Although it is clearly advertised as an eco lodge, the room is super hot with only one ceiling fan. Unluckily for us, the solar power cut out overnight, which meant the fan stopped and the solar system was making a high pitched alarm sound for 3-4 hours which made it hard to sleep.

Great location in the middle of wilderness. You've got your own hur away from other huts. Do a little hike to get to the main hut where the breakfast is served. (Really nice breakfast)

Felt a little weird using the bio-toilets.

Location was good, it's set back from the main road in a nice natural area.

There wasn't any hot water for the shower, this isn't a problem but we were told there was hot water. As we were staying two nights it would have been nice if the beds were made up and the bin emptied.
