The hotel is perfectly located, on the edge of the hotel zone with a stroll downhill into the centre of Funchal. Taxis are plentiful of you prefer not to walk. The hotel itself is beautiful, like walking round a compact village with lots of lush plants and trees. There are two outdoor pools, both a good size and not too deep which is handy for children, and an indoor pool. We were always about to get sunbeds outside. There are a couple of bars though they don’t tend to get busy so sometimes you have to track down a staff member to serve you. 0.5l Coral beers are very reasonable during Happy Hour (5.30-6.30) at €2.50! There was also table tennis, which our kids really enjoyed. The staff were all absolutely lovely and the was a daily turndown service for the rooms. We stayed Half Board and the evening menu changed daily with themes such as ‘Vegetarian Flavours’, ‘Italian’, and ‘Madeiran’ (the latter was our favourite). Lots of options including a really comprehensive salad bar and an excellent lemon cheesecake (served once in the ten days we stayed though!). Breakfast was similar - plenty to choose from each day, including hot food, cereal, bread and cheese, fruit, and pasties.

The evening food didn’t have many traditionally ‘child friendly ’options so it took ours a day or two to get into it. The puddings were quite repetitive and mostly mousse/custard based. There are some a la carte restaurants but they were mostly booked up when we arrived and some were a 30 min walk away so we didn’t bother.
