Pestana Miramar Garden & Ocean Hotel

A very well designed hotel with beautiful spaces and swimming pools to relax. The food carefully prepared and delicious. Enjoyed every minute of our 1 week stay.

Good location, very close to the city center. Calm. Very friendly stuff at the reception, I initially requested an earlier check-in due to my morning flight and they could make it happen. Clean rooms and friendly cleaning stuff. Comfortable rooms and nice balcony.

Although the rooms are comfy and clean, the furniture is old and there is a smell in the room from them. The smell remains on the clothes. Half-board does not make sense. Take breakfast to have something to start your day with. Food in the buffet is not tasty with little variety (in addition, dirty dishes and pigeons flying over your food in the restaurant - doors are widely opened for them to fly in). For breakfast, if you are coming late, don't expect much food to be left. The earlier, the better because many things are not refilled. For the overall class and price of the hotel there should have been a broader choice. If you order drinks, the restaurant stuff will be running after you until you pay at once for whatever you have ordered (they could do it in a friendlier manner). This is the usual policy in the hotel as it seems they don't trust you have the means to pay your bills. The restaurant stuff cannot be blamed for the attitude, they just adhere to what their employer asks them to do. Not a big deal as such you might think at first but leaves an unpleasant impression of how you as traveller and visitor are seen by the hotel management. Why you cannot pay such small bills during check-out, I was not explained. Overall, would not come again.

Fantastic pools to swim, outdoor and indoor, also spa, jacuzzis, sauna, steam. Very good location, relatively close to city center. Very quiet, no road traffic noise - this is very rare in Funchal! Nice restaurants with various food options. VEry friendly reception and staff - they allowed us to stay in the pool and spa even after checkout, on the last day! Beautiful garden, plans, palm trees, and grass - nice sunbeds around the two pools. Very relaxing place. Strongly recommended!

We did not like that we have to pay for all the drinks at the prepaid buffet dinner, even for some water (5 EUR!). It would have been cheaper to eat out elsewhere (there are quite a few restaurants within 100 meters!) and even opt in for the dinner at the hotel on the spot would be the same price. Thus, prepaid half board is not necessarily a good idea - not even mentioning over-eating ourselves at the nice buffet... :) but the food was excellent, no question about it.

The staff at the restaurant and around the hotel was very friendly. The garden was beautiful and well maintained. Sport activities like yoga outside in the sun was great.

We book the hotel because of children friendly activities like playground and kids club. But the playground was demolished (seems for long time) and the kids club was closed. That was super sad for our family and really unprofessional of the hotel staff. They didn't even apologize at the reception for that. Don't promise things that are not there. We met at least two families with same problem within the hotel. It is definitely not for family but mainly a place for old folks. Beside that the food wasn't that good. Very oily, not oat or soya milk available.
